Never watched Father Ted? Mind=blown. Unless you aren't from Ireland or the UK then I guess standard (like plenty of people here have never even heard of Seinfeld honestly).

Film of the year? Haven't seen all the contenders I am sure but that I have seen in order:

1. Four Lions
2. The Social Network
3. Inception
4. Mother
5. A Prophet

+1 on Californication and The League.

Didn't see Sons of Anarchy mentioned here which I enjoy (tho it might be ******ed - kinda tough for me to tell).

I also dig Fringe which wasn't mentioned.

Is Boardwalk Empire any good? A lot of hype when it started...
01-02-2011 , 08:45 PM
A Prophet was 2009.

Also, best UK comedy is Blackadder.

Also, I agree Fringe is good, but it's not Wire good. You have to invest too much time in the ****** stand alone episodes to know who everyone is. The science is also so eye wateringly terrible in the first season (they just don't bother explaining in the later ones) that it's hard to keep watching. Anna Torv is hot though. And her parents are Estonian, so I'm sure I'd have a shot at her in real life. Obviously.

Just saw first couple of episodes of new series of Californication. I find it slightly creepy that the movie star is actually 19.

You are right. I am sure I saw it in 2010 in the cinema which confused me most likely. My 5th choice is Carlos.

I think overall it was a fairly disappointing year for movies again tbh. Last vintage hollywood year was 2007.

Addison Timlin. So hot in the pilot of californication.

(i'm watching it myself, already@ episode 9 first season)

The Social Network for film of the year? It was good and kept my interest and was a good story but there wasn't anything particularly great about it imo.

I liked it okay. The last few episodes and esp the finale of S1 was a bit anti climatic but overall a pretty good watch.

i never really hear friday night lights recommended but i find it to be written well and highly entertaining so ill shoot that out there if you wanna try an episode or 2 of that as i often find most of the other most popular shows recommended at the top of my list (wire, sopranos, arrested development, early seasons of 24 and rescue me, curb, etc..)
01-02-2011 , 11:27 PM
Got to be said but if you havn't seen it, watch entourage its quality. But then i like jersey shore so my opinion is invalid.

+1 to Friday Night Lights. Entourage is a very solid watch, the last few seasons are on a decline but still worth watching.

I only chose it as number 2. I think you are underrating it a bit tbh. It was easily best hollywood movie of the year for me. I won't be surprised if its there or thereabouts for an oscar. Given Black Swan hasn't been released here yet and I heard its amazing. What would be your choice?

Might catch the first season then of Boardwalk Empire.

It's arguably as good as The Wire and better than The Sopranos.
WW was awesome until the end of the penultimate season, and the last season was truly terrible, basically all the good characters stopped appearing

Basically if you like Steve Buscemi you will love it, it's a vehicle for him

Didn't really rank them but:

Inception
Shutter Island
Robin Hood
Get Him to the Greek
The Fighter

would be my favorite 5 movies of 2010. While I didn't see the other 3 on your list its obviously all opinion based anyhow.
01-03-2011 , 03:04 AM
i thought robin hood was lolbad awful. i also thought shutter island was overrated. i liked inception and get him to the greek though. i still need to see fighter and true grit
01-03-2011 , 03:06 AM
I liked shutter island more than inception. It would probably get my vote. Imo, inception was overrated.

Haven't seen The Fighter but Robin Hood was awful beyond belief. I give it 3/10. Thats being generous tbh. That was mostly from the entertainment from laughing at Russel Crowe's terrible acting and accent.

Get Him To The Greek, really dude? I just could never like a movie featuring both Jonah Hill and Russell Brand. I very nearly turned this movie off half way through they both annoy me so much.

Shutter Island was nearly good but ruined by making it just absurdly obvious what was going on. With a bit of subtlety that could have kicked ass. One of those opportunity missed films, like I Am Legend when you see the original ending which makes it quite good.

The Tourist which I saw recently btw suffered from the whole make it too obvious whats going on. When you know the twist within 10 minutes its not a good sign when the whole movie has no substance and is relying on said twist.

Inception, agreed obv. Blockbuster of the year ainec.

Agreed

I nearly fell asleep during inception.
01-03-2011 , 03:44 AM
you guys should watch twin peaks if you dont mind an old show
01-03-2011 , 03:57 AM
I'm def team Inception. Really enjoyed the film but I also really like Leo as we had some mutual friends growing up and attended the same Thanksgiving (once). Obv I liked Shutter Island as well.

True Grit was definitely up there for me.
01-03-2011 , 04:21 AM
wtf at nobody mentioning Toy Story 3!!!
01-03-2011 , 04:51 AM
Meh Pixar films are the most overrated thing ever.
01-03-2011 , 05:29 AM
Toy Story 3 was great though. Up there with the first
