snipe/raz

i thought it was pretty good. if you didn't read the book you'd prob find it more interesting. ironic how the author is now dead and snap became famous.

one thing that bugged me was that i imagined everyone to be hotter irl - especially the girl. i pictured her to be an emo cross between avril lavigne and keira knightley but it was more like marlyn manson + female bodybuilder....

i'll probably check out the book/movie (eventually), it is so popular these days. anyone want to give me a brief run down on what it is about ?

i also have BJJ in 30 minutes after that rough session of muay thai yesterday. hopefully my body holds up during this week...

I'm in San Gimignano, Italy now. Probably the coolest city I've ever visited. It was apparently a city in Assassin's Creed II.

I'll post a bunch more pics from my Italy trip later.

Spoiler:

Well I don't want to go into an exact step by step but from the moment he got the blurry photograph from the woman who was on honeymoon of the other side of the street where Harriet was staring I knew who did it. Martin was the only one who was the right age and we knew it had to be a family member.

I was pretty amazed Mikael couldn't figure out who it was when we knew the culprit was a family member, he just remained frustarted by the low res lol.

All the other stuff Harriet actually being Anita in the window and her still being alive was all knowable/strongly guessable before the protagonists worked it out. Once Lisbeth cracked the bible code the logical conclusion was that the murders were committed by a family member and she knew about them. So Gottfried, the old mother and Martin were by far the strongest candidates etc. Everything fell into place with all the clues. It was so obviously Martin shooting at Mikael with the rifle.

The main thing neither of us got was that Martin went on to carry out his fathers 'work' into the present but I am not sure that was possible to work out.

It followed fairly standard mystery format, like the TV shows were the case is always able to be solved before the detective works it out. Thats the fun! So I am not sure why you think it differed so greatly from others in that specific regard.

Here is a review I like about the film after reading a few today:

Spoilers so don't read if you haven't seen imo.

yeah people are raving about it. its interesting but i wouldn't say its THAT amazing. the diceman or syrup (both different genre) are better.

do read and then watch movie. book was actually called something like "men beat woman" but it obv. wouldn't sell well with this title in u.s. so they changed it.

quick run down is that its a crime novel with "unique" main characters. saying more may give story away.

I haven't read the book fwiw.

The Diceman is SFAwesome though so I can't argue that its likely not as good!!

oldboy is amazing

Ha I mind reading something about Tom Hanks promoting Toy Story in Germany even though it's all dubbed in German by different people
08-04-2010 , 02:37 PM
I wonder what the Spanish version of Toy Story 3 does with 'Spanish buzz'.
08-04-2010 , 02:41 PM
+1 with the diceman being awesome.

what's standard to give to someone writing a letter of recommendation? alcohol? what if they don't drink?
08-04-2010 , 05:34 PM
Fruit basket
08-04-2010 , 05:38 PM
like a bribe? i dont understand. just say thanks

if you want a good letter of rec, it should be from a person who knows you pretty well, the kind of person who wouldnt want anything from you
08-04-2010 , 05:41 PM
yeah I mean they shouldn't expect anything in return

a thank you should suffice. though something like a bottle of wine wouldn't be terrible (but u said they don't drink?)

You two are cute.

How does the film compare to the book?

Spoiler:
I hated how in the book you get 3 pages of boring shopping lists or how Salander hacks someone's PC... Then the next page it's ANAL RAPE ANAL RAPE or KIDNAPPING AND SHOOTING! in a contrived pace-shaking kind of way

But otherwise it's pretty worthwhile. I felt that I had to read it as I was living in Stockholm all the time. Kind of cool to know all the streets he's writing about. The trilogy is certainly much better than Dan Brown so at least the super-best-sellers are improving.

So from what I can tell from my MRI, it looks like I have a tear in my meniscus... not sure though. I just looked up how to read a knee MRI, and where I think my meniscus should be there's a line going through it. Fortunately, it's on the outside, which means it should heal faster and easier.
