For NOW, you are right.
But in 10 years telecommuting will be much easier, and there will be more firms willing to telecommute.
Even if you are way above average, you will simply have to compete with orders of magnitudes of more employees. I don't think I share your belief that programmers outside the US are less likely to be mediocre.
Being better than mediocre will mean that you can demand a better than the median wage. But if the median wage goes down, this still puts downward pressure on your wages.
