Without drugs it is pretty much impossible. Trying to gain muscle mass while on a calorific deficit is not going to work. Maintaining muscle mass as far as possible becomes important.
I mean, I suppose I could be wrong, but everything I've read says lifting heavy weights, building up muscle will help you burn more fat, which logically makes sense because muscle burns more calories.

I may just be confused.

It does...sort of.

The problem is building muscle requires an increase in calorie intake for most ppl, so in the process of building muscle your body will often store fat away for another day.

This is why most bodybuilders go into building/cutting cycles because it's really really hard to gain mass and stay lean at the same time.

diet is more important than working out, at least for losing weight.
Only because ppl are lazy and it's a lot harder to burn 100 calories than it is to just not eat it. Calories are calories though.

I have no self control when it comes to good food, so exercising a **** load is my only option.

i ran kinda good on anime at bestbuy, was able to get box sets of both GITS series and cowboy bebop. deathnote was a clusterf*ck of a bunch of 5-episode volumes that didnt come close to the entire series, so I'm just gonna order that on amazon whenever.

also i got an embody chair (far and away the best chair of all the ones i tried), it wont come for 2 weeks tho

Your resting metabolism will be higher with more muscle mass. However this does not mean that you can lose fat tissue whilst simultaneously gaining lean muscle mass. Not very effectively anyway and without the help of chemicals almost impossible.

Thats a very short sighted way to look at it. It is much easier to cause changes in bodyweight through manipulation of diet rather than exercise. Not even close either.

My god, eat something sometime.

Gallon of milk a day, lift heavy things.

I'll try.

also how far is turning stone from you? anywhere else to play?

so your view is that Conneticut isn't awesomebut it's near enough to some decent places to make it worth going?
food is great, haven't been shopping much but its probably also good. I have no idea how far boston is from anything, and i haven't played live here.

Well it depends on your definition of "easy". Personally I have no problem doing an hour of cardio every day and burning off 600+ calories or whatever. I do have a hard time not eating/drinking what I want though because I love good food/drink too much. To each his own.

Busting your ass for an hour every day could easily still lead to zero fat loss.

Whereas if a sedentary person ate like 200 calories under maintenance he'd lose weight without changing a single other aspect of his lifestyle.

True...but I'm close to my target weight already. Working out lets me eat whatever I want for the most part and has other health benefits that can't be had w/ diet alone.

You're right obv, but that assumes ppl actually know what calorie intake will keep their weight constant. I guarantee if a lot of my friends dropped 200 calories a day, it wouldn't do a damn thing for them. They'd just gain weight slower.

also, i'm 6' 195ish and pretty muscular, though i'm getting lazier by the day and could use to lose a few pounds
i'm down for a small friendly bet to lose a few lbs, i'd like to be back down to 180ish

There are six books. Six big fat books. Unless they condensed 'em in some later reissue.

I am not arguing AGAINST working out. Of course its benefits are such that anyone not doing it regularly has some serious issues imo.

Haha then they should drop 300 calories a day, then 400 etc. I mean the point of adjusting diet being the best and easiest way to affect change in bodyweight does rely on them actually following it somewhat.

Meh 195 is a fine weight at your height, especially if you have a little bit of muscle mass.
09-08-2009 , 11:31 PM
in my experience, unless you are on a very competitive team with 2 practices a day or swimming/rowing, diet/nutrition and rest are going to account for 50%+ of development/overall success.

also, was always curious how exactly would this weight bets be verified?

based on trust? upload pics or?

It was published by about 6 different companies, 3 in the US alone, each having different translations and issue sizes

And RAZBOY: I'm about 5"11 and 130

I still consider that pretty good since I was 5"11 and about 90 pounds at the age of 18. Then again I was using opiates

Well, I was talking about the Kodansha ones. There are six of those. I didn't know anyone else did them in Japan. Oh well, I was hoping you got lucky and still had two to go.

Never really looked into the US versions. I do remember that they sucked. The translations I saw were flatter than year old soda. And they colored them. That really blew my mind. blech.

Lone Wolf and Cub had some kick-ass translators, though. Man, those were a joy to read in English -- because the Japanese went waaaaay over my head.

actually I read the english version before I came to japan, I thought they were well done. I think there was a ****ty version then dark-horse did a much better job with the translations and everything.

By the way, have you seen Ghost in the shell in japanese? I thought my Japanese was doing pretty well until I watched that a couple days ago, I had no ****ing idea what they were saying throughout basically the whole film.
