Lol, that sucks and all but the ineptitude of that law is so funny. I would fight it myself because **** them. No idea if you stand a chance of winning or not.
05-23-2012 , 09:35 PM
i seriously laughed when they sent back the ticket with the receipt and circled the dates on both forms basically saying NOPE NOT WITHIN 36 HOURS! WE DON"T GIVE A FK IF IT'S FIXED AND COMPLIES WITH NYS SAFETY LAWS. JUST GIVE US MONEY.

It's like a $100 ticket I think

i'm just want to fight it on the principle of how absurd the law is and how any reasonable person would see that...
05-23-2012 , 09:52 PM
that's the case for like 99% of laws (every one that don't exist to prevent people from doing bad things to each other). don't want to be a market participant? no problem, get a gov't job, come up w/ more ******ed laws that screw everything up.

whether laws are reasonable doesn't matter. they have lots of guns.
05-23-2012 , 11:01 PM
i'm pissed off just reading that. i would say fight it, but you'd lose. they'll just keep pointing at the law.

the cop who gave you a ticket instead of a warning is a dick as well.

So I hope to get more critiquing and response to my posts. Should I just ask in here, or pay for a coaching listing then continue to do what I do?
05-24-2012 , 08:33 PM
what do you mean? hands that you post in the forum? post here works.

Fmp

Not to name any names, but imo the best posters post content more frequently when they are arguing or debating a point of emphasis. I post my random opinions and have no clue how they're received. I'd prefer criticism or a pat on my bum more than no response.

I guess when I'm nervous I make bad jokes
05-24-2012 , 11:13 PM
i knew what you were getting at fifty1fifty, but listing a pseudo coaching listing isn't the way to go about it obviously(i know you were being facetious). Join a strat group, engage more when you post, explain more logic, stove some ranges, frequenting these forums and making quality post's is the best way to get solid responses. People want to help people or engage more when they know they are trying very hard to help themselves. All those things help your cause.

Tannenj is a great coach from what I hear, Keyser post tons of extremely helpful stuff on here all the time, though he can be a bit of a douche. If you can handle bilbo's cynical/angry/condescending **** he can be helpful too. Thatssosick is great as well. Just throwing those out there, hope it helps!

am sending this to my parents to get them to quit buying into the fear mongering of mainstream news/media

speaking of, has anyone actually watched cable news recently? I finally got back into the gym and I've been putting on CNN while there. It is ridiculous. I don't think their coverage falls into any definition of the word "news."

When I visit my mom she always has Fox News on. She used to watch CNN until she foubd out it was a liberal station. I'd like to gouge my eyeballs out listening to either though. We compromise with Bourdain's No Reservations which is nice.
05-25-2012 , 08:12 PM
Bourdain is such a hero.

^^^thanks for the words kg

The perception change of the word 'reporting' irritates me to no end. Way more than air quotes.

Daily show is all you need. Fox/CNN suck, but keep in mind that MSNBC has been trying to be more like Fox, and Fox has been chilling out. So at this stage, both channels are almost equally ridiculous

Daily show is in no way "all you need". You'll still be unaware of 98.2% of the relevant things happening in our world.

So far the best news stream i've found is the @reuters feed on twitter. Always fact based and as objective as possible. They report on a very wide range of topics as well. It's the best.

I use an app on my phone called Pulse News and it is pretty damn awesome. You can pull articles from all sorts of different news sources - right now I have lifehacker, cnn money, freakonomics blog, espn, askmen, ap top news, bbc top news, and some other stuff. I love the app, it gets me reading the news every day and I can mix in some other interesting stuff with the usual depressing headlines. Its also an easy way to balance your sources across different providers

Fox has been chilling out?

They're still my favorite channel to tune into while drinking to berate with the wife. My favorite recent Foxism is them trying to spin lowered unemployment figures into a negative. That not only screams bias (I take it they would have been praising Obama had unemployment figures risen? *har*) but biased desperation. I think the only reason that could even be considered a bit more low key is because everybody hates Romney - the guy's plain unlikable and if they push him as hard as they'd like to they risk distancing themselves from even their bread and butter "I love Jesus and rich white people" demographic.

Al Jazeera is one of the best sources of news available to the public. Democracy Now is a pretty good television journalism program.

There are also many intelligence firms who now basically do the job of journalism as it was originally intended but all their information is costly to purchase. I pay a 200$/year subscription for Stratfor Intelligence briefings and its well worth the cutting edge inside information.

Wikileaks also has tons of interesting stuff if you're willing to wade through the noise.

You can also create separate groups. I 'm a design major so I keep all the artsy sites in one group, domestic news in another, and int'l news in another.
