Relative to the average PG, in very limited minutes, Lin was better at rebounding, turnovers, blocking shots, steals, and getting to the line (note that he took fewer shots than the average PG but had nearly as many free throws).
His shooting numbers are not great, but it was 285 minutes, many fantastic shooters have been cold over even longer stretches. It was a small sample but that sample shows that he deserved a longer look.
Don't get me wrong, it makes sense that a team with Ellis and Curry wouldn't want to keep him, but Lin performed pretty well in is limited minutes.
