It's weird to hear the remix before the original, because it makes me enjoy the original less (sounds too slow)

I've never loved electronic as much as house though

there's been some cool music posted thus far goofy. when i first gained an appreciation for electronic music one of the groups that i listened to was called the presets:

Yeah, well if you notice the date ranges, it's more of a historic overview of genres (you probably know it's been out there for years) but it's always been a good way of showing someone that thinks electronic music is all just techno, or whatever, that there are more genres and sub-genres than you can shake a 12" at. Some of the written summaries are quite funny in an OTT sort of way and you can tell (i), it does have a US bias and (ii) the author hates trance!

btw if you like DnB, my friends perform under the name Bachelors of Science (Brits based out of Bay Area). I'm not so much into DnB, but they are doing pretty well and just played with LTJ Bukem in SF.

Every now and then Skrillex comes out with something I like, but I'm afraid I have to stick to what the "cool dubstep kids" were saying a couple of years ago and say I don't like him.

The two dubstep tracks I posted are closer to what most dubstep sounds like. My favourite dubstep track is the following, but there's only 100 seconds online and I expect you'll find it also doesn't go anywhere:

I'll link another D&B track as it might be more to your liking (that Basher track was my favourite of all the ones I linked, oh well):

From some other recent tracks, I am predicting you'll like:

Not particularly new anymore but I guess closer to the start of when dubstep ran off in different directions to itself:

Oh, and bonus video game dubstep:

Re: Jade Empire track - As far as I know there isn't a great deal of music at that BPM with strings. It's a D&B beat with some techno and some strings in. I can live with it but it feels like video game music to me. On the plus side it makes me think a bit of BT in places. The track below is essentially trance, back when trance was good. It's breaks with strings and a bit of trance instead of techno:

This is my favourite D&B track with strings but not really the same thing:

Or you could go Hybrid - breaks from this decade, plus orchestral. They're my favourite group:

Edit: Just listened to that Bassnectar remix and am a bit more optimistic that I'll be able to link you some more stuff you'd like. It weirdly reminds me of another Chase & Status remix, I guess because of the drum used:

Just realised that I can't post a Dr P track without sweetshop:

Electro-pop! I'm going to start trying to get Americans to use the proper genre definitions. It's bound to make me popular.

Going to see tiesto/avicii/Calvin Harris on Saturday. So ****en excited

What's the size of the arena? I'd pay quite a lot to see one of them in a ~200 person club. Stadium tours don't do it for me. I saw Swedish House Mafia in the mud in an outdoor arena and it just doesn't really work. Plus one of my pairs of Nudies got muddy.

(hipster): I saw Tiesto in '99 in a 200 person club. Also Pendulum in '05 I think.

Beat Down is good though. I don't really follow many particular DJs/producers/groups/bands, just individual tracks.

Any Peep Show fans here?

New episode was pretty great. Seems like this season will be worth the wait.

Random question - how does Dexter not have a boss? A supervisor? I realize that they kinda make Deb his boss in that he tells her he has to run errands, but they also make clear that he's not Miami Metro really - but rather a different department. How is there no head to notice he spends about 5 hours a week in the office?

God I hate this show.

I agree, after EDC I'd much rather see Calvin Harris at XS over a massive.

original is better, IMO

I would have recommended this song but I figured it was everywhere by now (guess things move more slowly in California).

Also that may be the worst music video of all time.

I don't listen to radio or anything so even if a song is everywhere I prob don't know about it. I like the pace of the remix a lot better, more energy, less of a chill pop song

(I like the video too, fu!)

I went to an event near Halloween time with alesso, sebastian, and otto and the average age had to be 20, there were only 2 bars in the entire place, and it was far too overcrowded. There was literally no where to move. I found it hard to really enjoy myself despite the good music. I was also just far too sober given the lack of access to the bar

I would certainly prefer seeing a DJ at a club than at a big show venue after that, and don't plan to do many big house events in the future

That said, I went to EDC nyc and loved it, so there are exceptions
11-28-2012 , 04:25 PM
n4rf, for me I think it has something to do with the energy in club versus a venue. Even a show like Guetta at the Borgata Event Center, although awesome, felt forced whereas the energy when seeing pretty much any DJ in a club feels natural and compounded. If I had to describe it, a venue I feel like you're more of a spectator, watching the DJ, whereas at a club the music is just part of the experience of that night. Even EDC felt spectator-ish to me.

Embarrassing story but last Halloween I was in Vegas and decided to go to XS. I'm looking at the DJ board for the weekend and the night I was there it was a Avicii. I wasn't into house too much and was disappointed a "no-name" DJ was playing when the other nights were surrounded by like deadmau5 and Afrojack. I was even more disappointed when I found out the cover for guys was $150.

Needless to say, it turned out to be one of the best nights of my life, 10 feet away from Avicii on the dance floor admiring the sound of Levels for the first time in my life. The following weeks FloRida strikes it huge with his track and he's suddenly everywhere in life.
11-28-2012 , 04:39 PM
I've never really thought about it like that comparing a club vs a venue, but that makes perfect sense

I like Midnight City a lot so I listened to Kyle's stuff:

Cut Copy: a little slow but I liked some elements of the song a lot, might try more of their stuff
Empire of the Sun: a little too indie

Alesso: this song is AWESOME, I guess big catchy hooks do it for me, I like "Levels" for the same reason

The Presets: liked the first song, my sister suggested "Youth In Trouble" which I did not like, other two were okay

Tunnidge: your prediction is right, doesn't go anywhere
The Prototypes: pretty cool song, captures a lot of the stuff I like about Pendulum
Steve Aoki: didn't like, feels like a basic rap song (beat reminded me of Drop It Like It's Hot) with a few electronic elements
Adam F: like this a lot
Screen Age: cool sound and energy but a little repetitive, doesn't feel like it progresses
BT: cool song, would like to hear higher quality version (they only have remixes of that song on Spotify )
S.P.Y.: decent sound but pretty subdued
Hybrid: ditto, liked the string stuff but the song felt like background music for something
Doctor P: liked both songs a bit but Tetris wasn't upbeat enough and Sweet Shop didn't progress enough

Some other stuff from Pandora that I liked:

yep best dance event of the world. It's in my backyard. Have been there 4 times (back when it wasn't as popular as now) and it used to be a lot better imo. We would take the vip package and you had seperate private camping, private bbq, vip decks (not crowded) with oysters / champagne non stop.

Now it's more crowded on the vip decks than on the stage (sort of speaking). Last time we went the parking was full (there should have been a vip parking), but they had to put cars at a company. Not a single light was on and no security. Completely isolated aswell. If you wanted to jack cars that was the place to be.

But yeah biggest artists and awesome vibes. Cards are always out of sale in a day or 2. This year we will probably take a vip bungalow with 8 people :d

forgot my password, this is kilillan

and I realized today that I really am kind of an *******

I was with my gf in the elevator at school, and a couple girls I didn't know were running for the door and I just start mashing the "close door" button

They actually barely made the door, and another random person in the elevator noticed I was pressing the button

My gf later asked me why I did it, and I couldn't even answer

hmmm, I need to join a buddhist temple or something
11-29-2012 , 01:15 PM
lol....what a weirdo you are, kil.

most people would be inclined to do the opposite...
