Villain is 22/13/5 over 191 hands, seems competent and TAG-ish and we have no particular history. I wasn't stoked to get checkraised on the turn - I'm confident villain would not play a set this way, so it looks like I'm up against a range of chops / QJ.

Questions:

1) Should I check back the turn? I think villain rarely (if ever) has two pair or a set on the turn, so I'm not going to get much value from worse.

2) Having bet the turn, should I ship it in over his checkraise? I didn't see much point in pushing here as I felt villain always has at least a chop.

3) Is the river a call?

Tough spot, though I find it hard to place villain on qj... not impossible but I think an oop float with qj here isn't really a great play from villain. Not that we're assuming he's great, but if we're certain he can't have a set or two pair then we're giving him a decent amount of credit. What I'm trying to say is, If we're assuming he's good enough to never have two pair or a poorly played set, then couldn't we assume that he's not oop floating qj on a rainbow flop?

1) As I said above I don't think we can discount entirely those hands so I guess I'm voting bet turn

2) I think you should ship it. I don't see him having qj that often, if you just call you're giving yourself a really hard decision on the river, and possibly letting chops scoop a sizable pot from you.

3) As played I don't know why you'd fold if you're convinced on the turn he can't have a set or two pair. If he can't have those hands, then the board pairing doesn't matter. I personally think those are in the realm of possibility and as played you should be folding if you don't ship the turn.

Mehhhh the more I think about it maybe i don't like shipping the turn... I'm actually kinda stumped, I guess we just call, and yeah I think we wanna snap the river in the event that he's continuing a bluff. The river card does kinda suck though as you may be against a boat if he was check raising turn with set or two pair. Seems unlikely but still an ugly scenario. I want to hear what other people have to say about this hand

I usually just ship the turn.. it's not like it's a limped pot and facing QJ here is a cooler/not the same scenario as K flush vs Ace flush on 4 flush board. I expect to be chopping a ton but since our hand doesn't stand to improve, I think you just ship the turn.

i dont see the point in shipping the turn, he will only call with the same hand or better if you do. Got to give him a chance to do something stupid.

I like the way you played the turn, and I think the river is a call.

his line does not make sense...

villains range is Jx and QJ, very sparingly air. Id fold river against that range.
07-06-2009 , 01:04 PM
played it fine id fold river now

i think his range contains a lot of air imo or am i way off?

This is why I rethought and decided I liked flatting turn and calling the river also. His line makes no sense whatsoever, and I can't see him having qj here that often. If he played two pair bizarro he can boat the river but I think we call turn and let him continue with air

wtf his line makes perfect since with a variety of Jx hands and QJ also.
07-06-2009 , 01:58 PM
if he has a j, its a bluff.. (i doubt he has a j a lot here, since its not very profitable to bluff someone away from a chop with an overshove) and maybe with QJ, but i think after the board pairs he will slow down and not overshove this hand...

its like he just bets or raises when the scarecard falls withouth thinking what he's representing imo

tough spot, flip a coin but when the best i can get is a chop i usually fold
