Poker Gods aint any different! I dont trash talk them either, even though I dont believe in them, its just good to be on the safe side.
From my perspective it's psychological, much like I think the "cashout curse" is actually real, but self-induced.

This is basically an admission that I not in enough control of myself to avoid some amount of recriminations/poor play/wasted attention if I feel like I've broken some pokergod-related taboo.

bwhahahaha cashout curse totally real, I made the mistake of cashing out before earning 200k and a $4k bonus and finishing on stars for the year, 13k VPPs left. Yea, mega fkt!

Yea. Its so self induced. When you guys said I was fked I started to run worse until I said to myself "hey man, they cant tell you how to run".
You know the mind doesnt understand DO NOT, so when you think "DO NOT RUN BAD NOW" the brain will hear "Run bad now". So I started to think "RUN GOOD NOW" and well, guess what happened! rungood again obv! (and this about the brain is rly true)
oh and gods, you suck.

Here's my list of things to avoid doing as to not jinx you :

- DO NOT BRAG. Ever. Don't post a graph, don't post stats, don't show a hand where you sucked out on someone, don't show anything.

- Do not caracterize someone as "fish" with your code colour on your pokerroom while in a hand. As soon as you put that green colour on the guy, you can be sure he's gonna suck out on you. Put the colour quickly between 2 hands.

- Do not take off the "auto post blind" while having a hand. The poker gods will know that you will sitout in a couple of hands and will want to make you pay. Same as the colour, take it off quickly between 2 hands.

- Do not burst into joy outloud for "finally having a decent preflop hand". Nor should you say (or think) "Good, now that i have a decent hand for sure i will only take the blinds". No you wont. But you will lose 120bbs.

- Don't ever answer to the question "how's poker today ?" from one of your friend if you're up. Say "nothing special". Always say "nothing special".

- And finally, don't ever start a session thinking "ok i'll just kick some ass then i'll hit the gym". You'll probably end up with your ass kicked and hitting the fridge for icecream and more comfort food.

My favorite type of run good is the "I'm running over the table then every time someone tries to outplay me I happen to have the nuts." This didn't happen to me but some dude is opening 82 percent and has been 3bet 4 times in the last 30 hands, having AAxx two of the four and both of those times getting it AI and holding.
It always frustrates me trying to think if he is playing normal and just getting tons of hands so it looks like he is completely aggro crazy, or if he just happens to get played back at the few times he actually has a hand.

I know a (winning) midstakes NL regular who usually just closes the software without waiting for blinds when he quits the session. Maybe that's his secret for success?

Have noticed this myself also. Thou I think it has something to do with your focus and the fact that you know you can quit soon. You might lose your focus, protect your winnings, gamble more when losing etc..

i think its funny when people "play their free hands"
really?
your sitting on a $1800 stack and the mother ****ing blinds are $5

also funny when playing a live game with thousand dollar + stacks and someone wants to leave cause they hit their stop loss or stop win or they have to go for whatever reason but they wait for their free $7 plate of mexican food to arrive. can be a very expensive meal sometimes

heh this is actually the time i run best

so many sessions this year have been something along the lines of:

-$2k, win it back to like -$500, drop back down to -$800, say ok f it ill call it a day, and then after hitting sit out next blind on all tables winning $1k in those final few hands

pkrtxs: my free hands this year probably equate to around 40k hands, which in rb alone are worth ~ 3k

My dad's words work on that subject...
"Never do the last run" he always said when we were going alpine skiing, jumping and stuff... always going a little bigger or more crazy the last run. Often ended up crashing etc

It's the same in poker "yea man, now we win the last hand and then quit" and never give up on the **** pot... So "Never play the last hand" is a rule.

And those are not just "normal" 40k hands, they are 40k hands from the winning positions. Average winrate for those hands can easily be like 20bb/100 higher than your longterm winrate. (I'm too lazy to check actual numbers)

Similar to cashout curse, If I am running good for a while and then I see there is a software update I get a slight dread.
