Unfortunately im in the .ca

A lot of ppl seem to preech this book and others don't. What's the concensus ? Pump it or dump it?

FWIW (and no offense), but 25k hands is still fairly beginner, IMO. That's like 1-2 months. That said, if you've studied a lot of stuff online, watched videos, etc. maybe you can skip the first book. I'd probably get both though, TBH.

As to the content of the 2nd book, it's really a function of playing styles. The majority here (and I'm not saying it's wrong) seem to be very "having the goods/showdown oriented" and consequently want to player fewer, but bigger pots IP with good hands. Hwang seems to be more "moves oriented" and so he wants to play more hands in position in smaller pots where the price of being wrong isn't as high.

Meshing the two styles is the tricky part, IMO.

I feel kind of bad about my first day using PTR Omaha. I mean making 1 BI over 500 hands isn t that terrible right? because thats what the ev says.

Don t remember the last time i thought "**** i really run like a fkn luckbox", but today i did.

I am not a beginner per se I have read a lot of stuff on this site, watched vids and even have a friend who coaches me from time to time and he is a proven winner at PLO200+ over a very large sample (not going to out sn it's unfair to him and I am sure many of you play with him day in day out)

Am I a proven winning player in PLO? No, but in NL Cash and Tournament NL I can say I am. I want to read a few books to help me transfer from NL to PLO. As I stated before my game is very face up. It's obvious what I have and this is why I don't get paid off when I have big hands and this is something I need to learn. Yes the standard fish will pay me off because he missed his draw but it's the times that they hit their draw that makes me feel really break-even at this game as well as being unable to extract some value from reg's.

Don't buy Hwang's first book as it's full ring and those games rarely run.

Buy the second one, even if there are some peculiarities in his hand starting hand selection as pointed out. No one style is perfect and it's not like these books are recipes/formulas for winning mirrions. Overall his advice is solid so no need to throw the baby out with the dirty bathwater.

i disagree. hwang's first book is solid to get a good understanding of starting hands. the 2nd book is alright too if u r able to filter it for good concepts and ignore the ones that r strictly related to the live games he's playing
