Is this guy's play standard? I mean, I know rundowns are cool, but isn't this just gambling? Or he must go ahead and shove because of the money already in the pot?

It might not be 'standard' but it's good. You failed to rep AA when you had the chance so now he's taking your cold-call as weak and is deciding to rep it himself. You might not in fact be folding very often to a 4bet once you cold-call but a lot of people do. If you call and don't have AAxx, he can rep them and get you to fold your hand on most flops. If you do turn out to have AAxx, he rarely has bad equity in the sidepot. Lastly, the rest of the table won't give him credit for AAxx next time any sort of 3bet or 4bet spot comes up, so he rates to get paid off by Axxx and KKxx and so on. So it's a pretty good play.

Getting the money in as a favorite is always nice:

The rundown is favorite, even though the FD is dominated. Usually, rundowns are favorite over big pocket pairs in multiway pots, unless 2 people have overlapping rundowns. You also wanna avoid Ahigh maybe even Khigh rundowns here, since they have fewer straight possibilities.
I think that in general you should try to 4 bet here preflop and hope that one of the guys is folding, so you get heads up. You will get your money in as a favorite, rather than being even money...

I usually 4bet, but since we are 260BBs deep, I was afraid that I would put myself in a tough spot post flop, since I'm oop, my hand is faced up as AAxx and we would still have a lot of money behind.
