When is it profitable to run it twice? Should I only agree to do it when I am a clearly behind?

If you are trying to build up a bankroll and that variance is a big deal to you running it twice is good.

If you are way over rolled and are used to the usual swing from your limit, don't run it twice.

youre paying extra rake so its never going to be profitable!

Not exactly true. If you're taking a shot or playing a game where losing a few stacks would result in you having to drop down, thus lowering your winrate, then the extra $1 per pot run twice of extra rake spent is definitely going to result in more overall profit (in terms of EV, at least) for you than running it once, losing, and dropping down.

extra rake. If you can handle the variance and are over rolled for the stake u play I don't see how it could be +ev tbh.

theres also the issue of how deep you want to be in a particular game

true, but imo at at least 3/6+ it's worth it. It's only $1. Unless losing pots never bothers you, I don't see why it's not worth it

kingdan makes a good point

its easy to say its only a dollar but its going to add up over time. Especially in a shallow/cap game where you going to be all in 20-30 times per session.

get a rakeback account or win a donkament and become a full tilt pro and then it wont matter as much. seriously tho extra rake is always -ev. if running it twice is seriously gonna effect your bankroll then you probably shouldn't be playing in that game.....

$4000 pot at $2/4. If you think that by losing that pot you will lose enough focus to cost you more than $1 in the subsequent hands you play that session, then run it twice.

Those kinds of people obviously are uncomfortable playing for the money in front of them. If they win they'll likely leave, so unless you have way the best of it, it's better for you to be playing against someone who is scared money than have a whatever your equity is to lose chance at them hit and running you.

makes sense, but do you think by making them comfortable they will play better and you lose some of your edge? Like they are more likely to stick it in the middle in good spots where they always have equity and quite alot of FE, but with scared money they play more passive/predictable?

You are prob right, I don't really know tbh just playing devil's advocate

but if they know you wont run it twice your fold equity increases a ton, so if you can keep them in the game regardless you're way better off not running it twice (assuming they're not calling off stacks with ****ty draws just because they get two chances at hitting)

They'll be more willing to stick it in in marginal spots since they have this cool run it twice safety blanket.

How often do you think someone who wants to talk about running it twice when they're in a potential all in situation is likely to stay at the table after he wins the all in knowing you won't run it twice?
