I am very surprised to see the games still as juicy as ever especialy smaller stakes PLO. I would have thought with the whole worldwide economy in chambles the games would have suffered. I could be wrong tho cause I do mostly play 100 and 200 PLO so not a huge sample. Has anyone seen different since all these economic problems hit.

Here in the Scandinavian countries we really have not experienced many effects on the crisis - yet. The higher interest rates have obviously lowered housing prices, but with almost everyone - atleast in Norway - having a job, our personal economy is not much affected. And we ofcourse have plenty of oil and a silly huge surplus on our national budget, so there will be as many Norwegians online as ever before I think.

Maybe in times of economic crisis, more people will turn to gambling to try and make money?

We're talking about poker here. If you want to talk about gambling, you're on the wrong website.

bizarre but the "get into gambling to make money to pay bills" was one of the main reasons people thought casinos were relatively recession-proof. which of course makes no sense to me.

they aren't, foxwoods recently laid off a bunch of people, and there aren't any other casinos around here so I have to imagine Vegas is hurting more

Of course it makes no sense. Most people gamble with discretionary income. When income stagnates/declines and expenses increase, there goes the money for a weekend in AC.

Is that why the lines are incredibly long at the pay check-counter at the casinos in Vegas every friday?

During economic downtimes, people tend to shy away from big-ticket things like vacations, and tend towards small ticket things.

I doubt the high-limit tables are aflush with new money, but I bet the low limit tables are bustling better than ever.

An evening playing microstakes is a lot cheaper than dinner and a movie, unless you REALLY suck.
