In late position with hands like A K J 5 or T 9 J 2 Should I just be folding them pre flop I find myself sometimes limping with these hands only in late position but Ive heard of the dangler concept and just wondering how strictly should I follow this rule?

AKJ5ss is fine to overlimp or open-raise in LP as long as you're folding it the rest of the time.

JT92ds is a little better hand and I'd usually raise this in LP to trim down the field and clean up your suits a little. Limping's OK too though.

One rule I like to go by is that I'll often pitch the hand if the gap is at the top card; JT92 is playable but J982 is a fold. Danglers aren't a deal breaker for me if the hand contains a 3 straight, a suit, and you're in late position.

it always seemed to me the JT92 is a true dangler and thus not a good hand, while AKJW where W is wheel card isn't a true dangler cause it works with the Ace.

am I off here, kinda surprising to me to see people say the JT92 is the better hand.

i agree im ab it new to omaha but when i have the A in there with the 2 3 or 4 it doesnt realy seem like a dangler since you can occasionally hit the wheel. Im pretty knew to the game but raising hands like AQJ3ds seems like a solid play at low stakes becuase the pot is bigger for the times when you hit it hard and you can get rid of the weak hands in the blinds.

Straight possibilities:

AKJ5
QJT
KQT
AQT
QT9
432

JT92
AKQ
KQ9
Q98
987
KQT
QT8
T87
KQJ
QJ8
J87
876

So the wheel card adds one possible straight for AKJ5, but it's still got 6 less ways to make a straight then JT92.

I think I prefer AKJ5ss which has more ways to make the nut flush, almost as many ways to make the nut straight, and more ways to make top two or board trips with big kickers.

Yah AKJ5ss >>> JT92ds. I will pitch JT92ds most of the time, but I'll raise AKJ5ss.

AxKxJx5 is slightly better in a multi-way pot with several players, but just barely. It can still only make 4 nut straights as opposed to 9 for JT92. When you get down to 2 or 3 players where you get more value of your medium suits, I think JT92ds is clearly the better hand.

Looking at my database quick, I played JT92ds all 13 times I was dealt it and only played AxKxJx5 15/22 times.

With a hand like that akj5, it would depend if there are any limpy lu's before me, and if i can buy the button or i am on the button, also if the blinds are easy to steal. with no players in the pot i might want to open it up with a raise to show strength. tnj2ds should be a lil more cautious, as in the only way you can lock up the nuts with that hand and safely take down a pot is with a straight flush in spades. i might flop a flush and play it carefully and cheap. less players stronger moves, but not too foolish.
