Yes. First of all, bad/mediocre villains often lead 1/2 pot with the NFD to build the pot yet at the same time keeping it manageable, keeping it small enough to call a raise.

When flop plays out like this, theoretically his continuing range is probably something like Axxxss/QT9x/AQTx/KQTx/KJxx/77xx (even though it's strongly skewed towards Axxxss given the 1/2pot-call flop line). On the turn, he's definitely check/shoving KJxx/77xx. By the river, you beat none of the hands he check/calls the turn with.
