PLO - Raising / calling raises? PLO - Raising / calling raises?

01-13-2008 , 06:46 PM
Up to now, I have been playing very passively pre-flop, usually just limping, or sometimes calling a raise after I have already limped. I have only been raising AAXX when one of the aces was suited, or when there were two other broadway cards.

This style is actually profitable, but obviously not optimal.

My questions are:

1) What hands are worth a raise, either opening or after limpers, and by how much?

2) What hands are worth calling a raise, either cold or after limping? What about after a raise and a re-raise?

Thanks for the help.

Raising and calling hands depends on how active table is playing, stakes, fr/6-max/sh, position both objective and relative to other players, your table image, and stack sizes. Please provide more information unless you want bland answers. For calling raises, you also need to match up your hand against the range of the preflop raiser (to a degree).

I start playing 25pl 6-max, and i really dont know, how to beat that limit... all tables is loose-passive, 2 much cs who calling any raise preflop, then calling c-bet on any flop...
What hands i should raise and sometimes re-raise on pre-flop? what hands i should limp?

p.s sorry for my eanglish

be very careful what hands you raise OOP and not that careful when in position (just calling OOP with semi-good and sometimes good AAxx hands is a good idea unless the stack sizes are very shallow, and in some cases very deep), both absolute and relative to the pfr.

if you aint raising enough, just raise hands that look pretty, then learn that they arent that great a hands but it was fun to raise them

There really are no clear answer to the question.
Go ahead and experiment. Start opening up starting from the nice big rundown hands and see what happens.

There are several reasons to raise and reraise preflop.
For example, you may want to make pot building raises late position with medium rundowns to greate a bit bigger multiway pot to be played with position.
Or you can raise big after a weak tight limper with wide range of hands as you are very likely to pick up the pot later.

So you should be raising to manipulate the pot size. Some times you like the pot big, sometimes you like it small. Stack sizes, quality/number of opponents should have big impact on your preflop decisions.

Limp/folding preflop is not nice. In agressive table you might want to muck "small pot hands"(like QQ57o and small rundowns) from early position, because you dont want to pay big price for seeing the flop. If the flop is preflop passive the you can limp alot of these hands.
Whatever you want to fold/call really depends on the raise size, opponents and whatever there are callers between you and the raises etc.(aka your postion to the raiser)

Crackking 3-betting aces can be very profitable. However you dont want to put in too much money against aces preflop and you dont want be calling big 3-bets with smaller pairs or an ace in your hand.
