The hotel don't really care about what the poker community will think of it, that ship has gone and they know it. It's more important to make a good cover up story for the rest of the world, that's why both the hotel and PokerStars insisted on roommate involvement. It's simple and good for business.

Tough luck no one bought it. Now, after a "thorough investigation", they'll probably blame it on some low level staff member who has worked there for no more than couple of months and is from Eastern Europe or Africa. They'll fire him, apologize and give Jeans and Ignat free compensation packages (like they are ever returning there, duh) and call it a done deal.

At least this was my experience in a similar situation with another 5* hotel. Funny enough, it was at Eureka Bulgaria, another PokerStars organized event. The hotel blamed it on a new Romanian maid.

Truth is an expensive luxury businesses don't like to pay for.

We need to seriously deter cheaters from cheating. A first good step would be for pokersites, and by that I mean primarly Pokerstars since they are the main actor in the industry and everyone will eventually follow their lead, to strenghten their punishments.

It's mind boggling how small the punishment is for cheating in the poker world. The risk/reward ratio is just way too attractive for cheaters at the moment. My mind is blown by the fact that Harrington and other multiaccounters get a simple ban and can, most of the time, have access to their funds in their account. How is that deterent?? In my humble opinion, balance should be automatically seized when a blatant case of important multiaccounting is found out. But the balance seizing is a debate that has been talked a lot before and I know that not everyone agrees.

However, we (and by we, I'm looking at Pokerstars mostly) could implement other sort of deterent methods. The following for example I'm sure could have a certain impact: How about banning cheaters not only from the site they cheated on, but for all play at every event, live and online, that pokerstars would be responsible of? This is a punishment that would make Harrington lose quite a bit of his action/business. He would not be able to play in any EPTs for example.

On the long run, if this can happen, we could hope for a ban on all pokersites. They could, in the long run, reach an agreement in which they could share lists of "banned people" that no site would accept. This would be a serious dent in the cheaters business because those cheaters are actually good at poker [Harrington is actually really good and if he wasn't that dumb/arrogant/misguided, he'd make for a great player] and can sometimes make money out of poker without cheating, they definitly wouldnt want to be banned from everywhere.

the blacklist idea is actually from Blopp/Skyervoy originally and I think it's a great idea/1st step to a good solution. you can find skyervoy's blacklist idea in his latest blog at nutblocker if anyone is interested

Putting anything into your hotel safe makes no difference. Once I got to a hotel room where the safe was still locked. I called the reception, women got up and opened it and left without even looking inside if there was something left from the guest who left today before I joined it. Which means everyone can open it.

What I can tell from my experienc being at couple of EPTs is that I am pretty surprised how this hasn't happened before already and I will tell you the organized crime will be more and more focused on such events. Why is that? Whenever I played in cash games besides the EPT I always noticed how most poker players just wear chips or huge amont of money with them and walk around on the streets at night, sometimes even drunk.

It is very difficult to rob a bank or a supermarket, compared to figure out who of those cash games guys is a highstakes one and just come to him and take all his money away, most poker players will be pretty much unable to responde anything not to mention defend themselves. Then just take a walk to the next ATM with them and all their credit cards and there we go.

What I mean by that is this poker business has so much money involved but really no security. I was very shocked how in Vegas Ivey and durrrr were just walking through the lobby like they are kids. I mean maybe thats alright in Vegas, but elsewhere I guess those guys would def. need security.

As for the whole Barcelona Hotel scam, thats not a big surprise to me. Saying it's a 5 star hotel in the EU does not change much. You cannot compare a 5 Star hotel in Germany to one in Spain. You cannot even compare a Ritz to Hilton, which are both 5 Star. People in Spain are very poor nowadays and unemployment is very high, makes it a no brainer to get this started.

email them (vipclub@pokerstars.com, i think that's the address they used last year) and tell them which events you wanna play, you can split the 5.2k value up into different events and they'll issue the tickets.

Exactly this.

Young kids running around with huge amounts of cash, bunches of online-highrollers stay in the same hotels during big events and most of them have their notebooks in the room, all that made as popular as possible obv through TV and other media.
I wonder not more people get robbed, not more notebooks infected, not more robberies at big events with low security as EPT Berlin 2010 (that this would happen was so obvious imo!!)...
So if not in Vegas, where the security is trained/used to care about gamblers with a lot of cash, people should just be more careful, try to deposit cash at the casino or sth and not to leave laptops alone when they are used for gambling (cause they are like cash).
And the hotelroom safe is also rubbish, cause it always can be opened easily with the mastercode.

You should be able to unreg from the tourney and will get T$5.2k, which you can sell or use for other tournament buyins, including SnGs.

See http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/tournaments/about, last paragraph.

Hmm, that's strange I think it applies to the WCOOP-66 ME only: I was able to get T$215 added to my existing T$ balance by unregging from today's $215+R PLO (a thinly veiled brag).

Thanks for drawing my attn; it would be a disaster if I had to play the $2100 PLO after tonight's $11+R satty, lol.

Edit: in the upper right corner of the lobby of the 25K FPP sat on Sep 28, they write explicitly that

You've got raped by the well hidden T&C as always , look out for such notices next time. It seems that you can use it in SCOOP'14, though.
