You can clone your entire content to the new disk and be ready to go in under an hour. The difference is HUGE. There are comparisons on YouTube as well as detailed instructions on how to clone and install the new ssd.

Bought a new asus g75v about a year ago, cause my 3y old vaio ( i7, dual core, 4gb Ram, 1HDD) was way to slow and always frozen when to many programs running while multitabling/HM2.
2Samsung 840pro SSDs in Asus/Raid0, quad core, 24gb RAM, and it runs like hell, running speed tests it has perfect results, in writing and reading.
A while ago I deciced to just change the HDD to an 840pro SSD in my old vaio and 8gb RAM, just to have an adequate reserve notebook. And I must say it runs soo much faster then before and is pretty close to my expensive new Asus. In speed/performance tests Vaio is ofc a bit slower than the Asus, but in daily use I dont feel much of a difference. In writing its about the same and in reading the RAID0 is noticeably faster but not that big of a difference. Just prolly sometimes when a lot of programms running, esp itunes, I'd like to have more RAM (like 16GB).
So imo there is no need for a new notebook/faster processor, etc. cause most of the diff def makes the SSD only (and more RAM is always good). If you want perfect/optimal performance then 2SSDs/Raid0/16+gbRAM.

Cool article Robbie.

Thanks for the support! Glad you liked it.

In general for my poker blog I try to find unique angles on the game and interview the people who don't always get the attention they deserve from all the big sites.

I could rant for a while on this because it really annoys me but you've summed a lot of the issues up in the blog. I will say I think it comes down to greed and ego a lot of the time. I mean no-one can ever really blame Taylor Caby for CardRunners because he came up with the perfect idea at the right time and has printed/is probably still printing heavies of it. Do I like cardrunners, no, but I do respect it was a great idea that'd make a few select people a lot of money. I find Galfond doing RIO insanely tilting, I, like everybody, like Galfond a lot. Great poker player and comes across well a lot of the time as a likeable guy. However, I feel that with RIO it was an essential F*** Y** to the community because he'd already acquired the absolute lot. It seems Galfond/Ivey etc who have taken huge sums from poker are now happy to aid screwing over the rest in order to build a legacy and have sites associated with poker with their names. Alongside that the chosen videomakers seem happy because it's 'sick' to be associated with Galfond and site he has. The whole idea of it is just ludicrously annoying.

Last and not lease the main tilting part of training sites is that so many poker players love to come off as being smart as ****. Rather than ever thinking how to properly monetize themselves they would rather fire out a bunch of info and have the accolade of people being like 'wow, sick information, this guy is brilliant at poker, what a legend' that yearning to keep the game at it's most profitable to those who work hard simply to improve their own game on a daily basis.
training sites are a really interesting subject. i haven't come across a good real life parallel to them yet.

i think you might have a bias being a PLO player instead of a NLHE player on this one. the first person to "backstab" in a prisoner's dilemma situation should be the most to blame. would PG have cofounded BFP as early as 2008 w/o Cardrunners? very unlikely.

but that's not saying PG/RIO is not responsible. IMO, one should view training sites and employees by the marginal value they give vs. the scenario where they did not exist. RIO seems like a unique and elite product, with little substitute in the training site economy. pretty bad for the games. whereas CR these days is probably quite comparable to a lot of second tier sites, i.e. if someone wasn't a CR member, they'd join DC, leggo/ivey, DTB, etc. that might be why you are more unhappy with PG than TC. right now, he hurts your bottom line more than TC, but without TC and the structure and innovations of CR, there would be no RIO.

employees should be viewed similarly. RIO has a schedule of videos, but not necessarily a schedule of video makers. if you're a small-midstakes coach and are making videos, you're really only as valuable as the next best small-midstakes coach who would be making videos in the same slot if you stopped. it's not like RIO would skip a video that day. however, guys like sauce are huge talents and have no similar substitute. sauce is an awesome guy, though, and has donated most if not all of his training site monies to charity. he just fits well in this example because he's probably RIO most valuable employee.

Yeah unless you do some serious video editing you will see almost no improvement with 16GB RAM over 8GB, anything over 16 is a massive overkill but this is hsplo, so I assume most people just go "$200 more? I'll have 2 of these"

LOL, point taken.

If you're interested, I actually have done some pretty cool interviews and more are certainly in the pipeline.

A couple of the most interesting have been Shaun Harris (guy who's dealt 5 WSOP Main Event Final Tables) and Patty Landis (Daniel Negreanu's personal assistant)...

I don't want to run afoul of the forum rules or anything, but if you'd like links I'm happy to share them here with everyone...

As I said, older i7 with ssd will do it, no need to buy a new comp....
But when i multit, hm2, tn, etc and then run itunes aswell, my 8GB Ram notebook sometimes seems to struggle a bit, i.e. short freezes from time2time, slows down hm2, etc. Never happens to my 24GB RAM notebook, but I really think 16GB will do the whole job fine 4 sure.

i have 8gb of ram and i really think i need more. HEM is taking like 1.5-4gb on it's own, add 1.5 from chrome and music player/video player/chat programs and it gets to the point when sometimes my computer freezes up / i need to close something (usually restarting HEM gets it back to like 1gb usage) before continuing with what i'm doing

You can do better here as well. Invest in a premium Intel one, you'll thank me later.

Other than that, it looks good.

^^This.

I have 8gb. It idles at 2.7gb occupied when I start the machine, running win7 and rapid mode on the EVO ssd which reserves 1gb of ram. Never goes above 5 even with hem1, hem2, fpdb, tn, tb, chrome, music player, video player, two av scanners on at the same time.

If it does for someone, then there's an os problem or a conflict somewhere.

In what way will my **** power supply be problematic / should I really worry about it?

I really don't want to go through the process of having components changed once I receive it.

should be fine for that, but if you add on a nice graphics card they can use quite a bit of power

and corsairs are usually pretty solid/efficient. edit, altho that one might be on the low end..

Doorbread, I'm just gunna go ahead and say that if you spent over $1500 on the computer then it's perfectly fine and way overly qualified for any sort of pokering that you intend to do.

ASUS aim at quantity, not quality and have a very high rate of defective ones.

I'm a Sager fan, custom gaming laptops based on Clevo motherboards. They're in the business for 25 years for a good reason. Very reliable, high quality build, modular design for super easy upgrade of components and competitive prices.

One downside is their design is kinda bulky, not a piece of equipment you can flash successfully at public places. But this is not important to me. The other downside is they are sold only in North America.

ahh ok, i guess then im semi RO because im like 3/3 on them working flawlessly. back near the end of high school (which was actually a long time ago..) i built my own and a couple friends desktops and always used asus boards. no one had problems and mine OC'ed really well for the price (~$130)

yeah im familiar with sager, aren't they kinda pricey compared to others? i went with samsung because i love their screens, but mine had bleeding pixels after only like 6 months.. 2 diff spots in the lower right, but the 2 samsung tvs i have are both fine, so idk.. really happy with the rest of the laptop tho. great battery, price was decent, basically a knock off MBP, surprise surprise, right?

I love this expression in English. It always make me think that someday you woke up, and the sager made your breakfast with cookies on the side.

i believe it originated from "amazing in every way possible," which makes more sense americans are generally pretty bad with using such expressions properly. my favorite one that 90%+ of all americans use regularly is "i could care less!"

cookies for breakfast? you must be french.
