Agreed.

Even if the best team won, that double-whammy ruined the match

Anyone can offer a little job advice?

So I got a job, started this week. It's basically not what I expected at all really, I feel so out of place it's not even funny. Hating it pretty much. While I know things take time ect and stuff like this is normal for a lot of people, I think I have already made up my mind and I'm def not staying there long term, it's just not for me, feels wrong, have a bad feeling.

So the deal was "a couple of months to start" (3, I think) where I should learn some stuff ect and then hopefully move on to some more interesting things. I haven't even signed a contract though, even though I asked for it a couple of times.

So what to do lol? Financially it's not a problem. Have some money ect, can grind a little if needed and so on. Also should be able to get another job fairly soon, had 4 interviews this month before I started and quite a lot of postings to apply to.

I guess my main problem is that I would just feel like a quitter, a failure for giving up so soon. My parents and a couple of friends I spoke to just tells me to tough it out ect, but I'm not sure it's worth it. I can already feel I will probably be miserable.

So I guess I just wanted to hear peoples thoughts? Even though I have already kinda made up my mind. Gonna talk to the boss tomorrow and tell him I'm not sure it's for me, might not be the right match and so on. Think it would also be better for them to get someone other in instead of having me around for a couple of months and then going anyway.

Don't really have any input, but it seems clear what you want to hear from us, and that's maybe a clue.

If you haven't got a contract, then just tell your boss you don't like it and leave - hopefully with payment for the days worked there

When it comes to parents/friends etc then honestly fu** them in this matter. It's your life and you have to make the decisions and live by them. Obv don't literally flip the bird to them, but try to explain why you don't want to do it.

Don't waste your years doing something that feels wrong just for the sake of making people around you happy while you are miserable.

edit/ uuuh almost forgot

Did they offer you a contract? Seems odd that you've asked twice and not been given one to sign. I assume it's a small company?

I would mention how you feel to your boss on a one to one basis. See what his/her reaction is and judge whether to persevere with the job based on this response.

Is the job anywhere close to what you'd like to do? Might be a good idea to wait for the 2-3 months when they promised to give you more interesting stuff to work with. You don't really waste a ton of time like that.

Talking to the boss is a good idea, but I'd hold it off for a couple weeks at least.

And, yea, **** the relatives/friends, they should support you regardless. Obv don't scoff at their advice, but it's ur decision and they need to respect it.

I can't understand why mine should (and are willing to) support me. It's the greatest mystery of life to me right now.

If he's a trainee, it's better for both him and the company if he quits now rather than 3 months from now, corporations lose a ton of money on failed hires.

Here's my 2 cents.

a) Don't feel like a quitter, you won the sperm race in terms of this interview process
b) No job ever turns out the way you visualize it in your mind imo *
c) put yourself about a bit, get to know people, a couple of laughs an hour can make all the difference, a drunken night out always helps here imo - but depends on the demographic of who your working with tho. Go out and take some people down, make the first step, invite for ppl lunch, organise beer session, etc
d) Work is called work for a reason, its not called fun, it always becomes a grind and the grass is always greener and if you end up loving it too much, you'll sit in one role too long and go stale cos you didn't challenge yourself to go out of the comfort zone
e) If your in a good industry, think twice *, the first job you land will mold your entire career... and learning from the bottom up is hard but the best way to know your **** when you get to a decent level *
f) Forget about how much you can print playing poker, if that's on your mind at all
g) go with your gut instincts

* I know a kid who hated this one industry, was working there before he went off to college, etc. Finished college with solid results. Wanted something different, just could find it or make it happen. Ended up going back to the first place he ever worked at, grinded his way up, maybe he felt a bit like he wasted time at college etc i dunno. The dude is killing life right now, single, booking more money than you can imagine, flying round the globe etc. Boy has some serious grind in him but also... started out in the right industry and the right firm, not small, respectable, noteworthy firm.

Good luck man

Ty for your advice all. Talked a little with the boss today. Decided to just be straight up and tell him I wasn't sure if it was right for me, that I might not be the person they were looking for. He was very understanding and we decided I should think it over through the weekend and we should have another talk monday and decide.

Think I handled it okay and that it's best for everybody involved if I quit quickly if I don't think it's gonna work instead of staying and delaying. I feel kinda right bad right now and my father is gonna hate me for a while, but oh well, think I know what to do.
