I'm really fishy at PLO. Is this a good flop? Is it right to get it in as fast as possible? Any standard insight would help.

Because there are so many draws made possible by this board, I think you have to get it in as fast as you can. Worst case scenario is you run into top set. Best-case scenario is that you run into a big wrap. In that one you have a better made hand and a stronger draw.

Yes.

What sort of hand can 9 2 A 9 honestly expect to flop? Middle set can lose a lot of money to better sets, and is a dog to a big wrap. The only other thing the hand has going for it is the flush draw, and hero will be OOP on every street.

Hero gambled and got lucky. That doesn't make his pre-flop move a high expectation play.

Would be different if hero had position after the flop. That opens up other options.

if you get one of the best flops for your imaginable and you're not sure if it's a good flop you might want to consider not calling a raise oop with the hand.

of course get it in now

The flop is the best possible flop for you. Dont think about it then.

Fold pre imo.

preflop is ok if opponent is weak and you can take the pot sometimes even if you miss but you would need some kind of read imo to call. to only try to hit a set or nfd vs one opponent oop is -ev. playing bare nfd oop isn't very profitable and a set isn't really as strong a hand as people tend to think. in holdem it basically means your gonna win big monies but in omaha it often has "only" 55-70% equity. in a nutshell, people overestimate their implied odds with these kinds of hands.

obviously you can't hope for a better flop so get it in.

If your hand was A299 it would be much better. You could flop a set and the nut flush draw. With yours having the ace suited to the pair it hurts your chance of a monster flop. Of course, as you did, you flopped a monster.

In passive 25PLO games you can play a lot of hands profitably if you know what to do with middle set, the bare flush draw, etc. If you don't know how to handle those spots, it's best to dump hands like this one. Especially out of position.

If you were calling a min-raise on the button, the outrage wouldn't be near as bad in this thread.

Why would you fold preflop??

possible reasons to fold pre:

having the 9s makes flopping a set and fd much less likely
the hand has 3 spades in it blocking it's own outs
We'll be oop the whole hand with what will mostly be marginal holdings
A set of 9s is never the nuts by the river
Set under set is more likely with this hand than a hand with a higher pair
Whenever we flop a straight it will not be the nut straight
When we do flop a set a 9 will be on the board, and 9s make an awful lot of straights/straight draws possible

Phil hellmuth's favourite hand is two black 9s, and hellmuth sucks.
