yeah "lol live pros" statement is pretty much void considering some of them make much more more per year than top 10 winners online combined

This.

I can attest for at least 300 longtime pros just from Bulgaria. $1K/month is a pretty decent income for a 20yo around here.

Do they grind full time or study something for the main part?

probably both.

eastern europe is very poor. in romania average salary is ~3-400$ a month.
if you make 5-600$+ you can live comfortably in any part of the country.

300 in bulgaria!

OK, fair enough, I'll revise my estimations up to 5k.

I'd probably take the under on 2500 of people who make enough to support a middle class lifestyle in say, the USA but I just think there are way too many people happy to be making ~$25k in some part of the world who qualify as pros.

I think most of the disconnect is attributing being a "pro poker player" with the guy in Bulgaria apparently grinding out $16k a year or whatever.

442 SNEs + "300" players actchev knows of in Bulgaria - some double counting = ~740 players

740 / 5000 = = ~15% of all professional poker players in 2014 either made SNE or are from Bulgaria?

Spoiler:
no

The number of actual poker professionals is almost certainly closer to 50K than it is to 5K, even saying that close to 1% of professional poker players in 2014 made SNE seems like a stretch.

i was thinking about 50 000 that consider themselves pros (maybe less lately...), and the real number of actual "pros" being ~20k

No, sure, of course, 30k+ people expecting to make enoughof a profit from poker to live seems totally reasonable in the context of all those incredibly juicy games you can find on every street corner and how little attention everyone else has paid to improving their games, and how much money unlimited fish are willing to throw away and never quit. Right. Game has never been hralthier.

      Then there's also livepro's.
I've always wondered how many people are "pro" poker players or what even is considered a pro. When I was playing NL25 back in the day making 800-1200 a month I considered myself a pro I imagine there are a lot of people playing micro/small stakes cash games and SNG/MTTs that would qualify. Anyone that plays live 1/2 4+ days a week probably considers themselves a pro. Many pros over here at the horseshoe
