Can sociopathy be trained or developed by environment you live/grow up? 99% of people in Nigeria would SNAP agree to be 'friend' for 2 months w/ someone to get $20K, are they all sociopaths in there?

Not an expert (know more about it than bikini tho obv) but sociopath and psychopath mean the same thing.

It is not environmental, at least not in the way you're suggesting Codecci.

Being a sociopath doesn't mean you just blindly want to enjoy killing for the sake of killing or crime in general or whatever, you can totally be a solid family man and a sociopath.

jmakinmecrazy who is a regular poster in OOT has admitted to having been diagnosed as a sociopath and is very comfortable talking about it if you're interested.

doubt srp is a sociopath, just probably doesn't have as developed a sense of morality as the rest of us. being out for yourself doesn't make you a sociopath.

don't think so.

Although the definitions aren't explicit, one of the differences seems to be cause. Psychopaths have an actual physiological defect in the brain, and sociopathy originates from environmental factors, childhood trauma etc.

I guess with sociopaths it's rather arbitrary where you draw the line, but I could see SRP falling within the limits. He definitely displayed some of the common characteristics on the podcasts.

And here I was under the impression that a psychopath would have a lack of empathy or conscience and have a very controlled behavior vs the very impulsive behavior of a sociopath, oh well time to go back to school... or maybe I can just learn from your posts ITT

a psychopath is supposed to have a clear cut understanding of human emotions to manipulate others for personal gain, I dont see how his mental break downs and instability could be seen as some long con to get sympathy from anyone ./armchairpsych

Totally off topic but I remember reading here 2-3 years ago about a charity where you donate every month to support a kid living in a third world country.

Link anyone?

Ah, I remember this discussion. iirc some really awesome philanthropist asked about it and ended up donating to one of those charities?

Confirmed.

Ideally would like to give to one that saves lives, like providing food, mosquito nets, and vaccines to people in bad shape in Africa. I also want to give to a charity where they put most of the money that they receive to work helping people and very little on paying the salaries of the people running the charity and on advertising and stuff like that (I know one of the cleft lip charities only uses something like 5% of the proceeds on the surgeries for the kids).

Also, how does the deduction for charitable donatiions work on taxes? You deduct your donations from your net income to get the income you pay taxes on right?

I remember seeing some discussion of a site wich made it easy to give money for funding of promising startups in development countries, anyone remember this?

You can choose where you want to sponsor a kid and his general stats...

I have a kid in South America and he draws me pics and tells me about his life - it makes me feel good.

If you are going to donate to charity, I recommend you research it first at http://www.charitynavigator.org. I went there and saw save the children gives 90% of proceeds directly to kids whereas children international (the site you recommended) only gives 80%.
