Getting Fish Schooled Getting Fish Schooled

Guess I'm asking this question as a new player because it leaves me scratching my head time and again.

What happens when you have an insane hand in late position preflop, get five callers, then completely whiff on the flop?

Do you just sigh, c/f, and wait for the next big hand when maybe you'll hit? It's frustrating, but I don't see any other way around it

stuff like that kinda matters

It really depends on the texture of the board and what you might be able to represent, but against 4-5 opponents it's usually c/f for me.

I may be too weak/tight, but if I am sitting with AAKT in a four-way pot and the board is 467, I usually just c/f.

It totally depends on how much your are getting check-raised. If the table is letting me get away with making a 1/3pot cbet, then I do that and fold to a raise.

I don't think this is weak-tight. Against three players, you are facing 18 two-card combinations. One of those combinations has you drawing near-dead, or a three-card combination that has you in very deep trouble (e.g. T98).

Good PLO players make a lot of money from hold'em players who think that made hands are ahead of draws, or that aces really need a bad flop to be bad. In fact, aces need a good flop to be good.

You may occasionally get away with a PSB/3 c-bet, but against 3-4 opponents, one of them will sniff out that weakness, K/R you, and then you'll have wasted a one-third-pot bet.

Regards, Lee

Pretty much. Think about why you are raising preflop.

Is it incorrect play to raise an unraised hand preflop with a premium hand in late position, with people already having limped in?

I just assumed that getting people to call you with worse hands and building a bigger pot when you have the best hand was obvious optimal play.

No, it's the right play. Your hand has an edge preflop and your building a pot in position.

But after you see some rundown flop that misses you, especially in a big multiway pot, you know you probably don't have that edge anymore. So at that point, don't try to press your edge, because it doesn't exist anymore.
