This is probably a beginner's level question, so please be gentle.

3 see a flop of 789

BB checks, MP checks, BTN has JX10X with no redraws.

What to do? Pot bet? Half pot bet? Or check to see a free card and avoid losing a big pot to the flush or boat?

I like a half size pot bet here. I think it gives you alot of options. With position, you can bluff a turn if the dreaded club comes or if the board pairs. You might be surprised how cheaply you can make your hand look huge/unbeatable on the turn. If they c/r you on the flop you can make a decision there but it makes it cheap to let go as well if you feel your opponent(s) are stronger with redraws.

BB is solid player with about $800. MP is maniac with about $1,200 but stuck for about $3000. I'm on button with $650. I did pot bet the flop about $60.

Trust me, no one ITT has given you advice half as good as what I'm about to give you. It's absolute gold for the situation you are in:
