hi guys, sorry to ask noobish questions in here

i am a midstakes nlhe player looking to learn plo for fun and to increase my professional viability. i'm not a complete noob but i've probably logged fewer than 10-15k hands.

any books/videos you guys would recommend, especially for a nlhe transition? any particulars about BR management (i've heard 100 buyins)? any sobering warnings so i don't freak out over the variance?

thanks, terp

Books: I would say Jeff Hwang book is easy to understand and the explanations are pretty good but you have to adapt for 6max.

Vids: CR or Deucescracked are all pretty interesting. For the transition NLHE to PLO I think lefty's vids on CR are helpfull to learn a TAG style. Then you can swith to Stinger's vids or DC's vids to leran to play more hands.

BTW: Conventional wisdom says to have at least 20 buyins. So does that mean you are supposed to grind PLO5 till you hit $200 to play PLO10? Or does that mean you should have 20 buyins before you move up so @ $100 dollars (20 plo5 buyins) you "can" move up to plo10?

I know that's all relative.. Just seems overly nitty to grind the lower stakes to the Nth to hit 20 buyins for the bigger stakes?

god i'm still such a nublet
Conventional wisdom says 30 buyins at the next level to take a shot, 50 to make it your home, and 100 to never drop down. Of course, you have to be able to beat the level, or the buyins don't matter.

At such low levels, feel free to lax these a bit and take shots when the games at the next level look good, which should probably be all the time. Just be sure to have rules, and to stick to them. If you are going to take a shot at PLO10 with 20 buyins, move back to PLO5 when that has sunk to 15 buyins (30 for PLO5). The exact rule isn't important; sticking to it is.

How do you think I could have milked more money out of this? I never really know what to do once the quads come out How could I have hiden the strength or something? I generally don't get any callers with my quads, even when I both check it when I actually hit the quads, or when I only bet small. Any suggestions?

Yay! I must have spent 250 on sats alone and played 6 hours straight but I've finally managed to qualify for FTOPS event 6 tomorrow, it feels very good to win one of those damn thing

Also, while I was playing those sats I tried one of the 20$ 6 max "deep" tournament on full tilt, but I could not really test the structure, I busted at the second hand with nuts+nfd all in on the turn... fun times!

Hopefully I'll play longer tomorrow...

edit: Poker ace hud recognizes my 6 max FTP tournaments tables as full ring tables and the stats are all messed up, anyone knows how to fix it?

man i dunno how you guys can play heads up

everytime i pound on a fish, they quit me after losing a buyin.

everytime i lose an early all in to a fish, they quit me.

just super annoying to not get any decently long action vs bad players =P

the only ppl who don't quit me are the maniacs, but those seem to be around less frequently.

selling pieces for the $535 - 35% left, going for $100 for 15% of profits. Pieces available up until 10 minutes before tournament starts.
