Riddle 1
There are twenty coins sitting on the table, ten are currently heads and tens are currently tails. You are sitting at the table with a blindfold and gloves on. You are able to feel where the coins are, but are unable to see or feel if they heads or tails. You must create two sets of coins. Each set must have the same number of heads and tails as the other group. You can only move or flip the coins, you are unable to determine their current state. How do you create two even groups of coins with the same number of heads and tails in each group?

Riddle 2
A stark raving mad king tells his 100 wisest men he is about to line them up and that he will place either a red or blue hat on each of their heads. Once lined up, they must not communicate amongst themselves. Nor may they attempt to look behind them or remove their own hat.

The king tells the wise men that they will be able to see all the hats in front of them. They will not be able to see the color of their own hat or the hats behind them, although they will be able to hear the answers from all those behind them.

The king will then start with the wise man in the back and ask "what color is your hat?" The wise man will only be allowed to answer "red" or "blue," nothing more. If the answer is incorrect then the wise man will be silently killed. If the answer is correct then the wise man may live but must remain absolutely silent.

The king will then move on to the next wise man and repeat the question.

The king makes it clear that if anyone breaks the rules then all the wise men will die, then allows the wise men to consult before lining them up. The king listens in while the wise men consult each other to make sure they don't devise a plan to cheat. To communicate anything more than their guess of red or blue by coughing or shuffling would be breaking the rules.

What is the maximum number of men they can be guaranteed to save?

Riddle 1:

Spoiler:
I'm just gonna go ahead and solve this two ways, neither way probably the way you want, but both allowable by the wording: 1st way is by creating two sets of zero coins; 2nd way is by creating two identical sets of all the coins out there.

Riddle 2:

Spoiler:
I don't know, I've seen the answer out there on SMP (another 2+2 subforum), I can't be bothered to work it out.

Riddle 1:

Spoiler:
Split the coins 10 into two piles, A and B. There are N Heads and (10-N) Tails in Pile A. Pile B will have (10-N) Heads and N Tails. Flip all the coins in Pile B and you will have N Heads and (10-N) Tails in both piles.

Riddle 1:

Spoiler:
Split them into two groups and flip all the coins in one group over. Because the heads of group one and group two sum to 10, as do the heads and tails of group 1, and heads and tails of group 2, we know that G1H always equals G2T, and G1T always equals G2H. By flipping all the sides of one group, we now make G1H always equal to G2H and G1T always equal to G2 T.

Riddle 2:

Spoiler:
Last person says Red if there is an odd number of hats, Blue if there is an even number of hats, the rest of the people in the line will be able to deduct what color their hat is. Max lives saved: 99, EV lives: 99.5

Spoiler:

1. split coins evenly into two piles.
Tl=number of tails on left
Hl=number of heads on left
Tr=number of tails on right
Hr=number of heads on right
Hl+Tl=10
Hr+Tr=10
Hl+Hr=10
Tr+Tl=10
Hl+(10-Tr)=10
Hl=Tr
Same thing to get
Tl=Hr

Therefore flip everything on left or right and you'll get the same number.

Spoiler:

99. The first person to get asked has no information about his own hat (and therefore has no incentive to cheat if you care about game theory here) but he has perfect information on the persons in front of him and can just call out whatever color there is an odd number of.

When I read riddle 2 and read the answer it was quite interesting to me as I was on the same thought process as you two but had a slightly different number.

Answer spoiler
Spoiler:
99. The first wise man counts all the red hats he can see (Q) and then answers "blue" if the number is odd or "red" if the number is even. Each subsequent wise man keeps track of the number of red hats known to have been saved from behind (X), and counts the number of red hats in front (Y).

If Q was even, and if X&Y are either both even or are both odd, then the wise man would answer blue. Otherwise the wise man would answer red.

If Q was odd, and if X&Y are either both even or are both odd, then the wise man would answer red. Otherwise the wise man would answer blue.

Thought spoiler
Spoiler:
Although the first man can save 99 people, the riddle does not ask how many people can this person guarantee to save. The riddle asks how many people can they guarantee to save. If the group figured it out and acted accordingly then all 100 wise men would be saved.

For anybody that wants to bet sports. Imho, the steelers an chiefs MLs are possibly the 2 best bets of the year. And the seahawks as underdogs is super juicy as well.

are you updated on PIT injuries? They lost a ton of players last week. Think they were down to their 3rd left tackle. I'm not up to date but PIT sounds risky

Can I get on the newsletter?

How come you don't have access to betting sites? I could recommend a few that you would crush if you know what you're doing.

I only found them at 125-1, anyway don't they basically need to win out to make playoffs? In that case you'll get far superior odds by just going double or nothing every game since they'll be big dogs all the way in playoffs

8 games left including superbowl, so you're looking at about 325 or 350-1 considering they are dogs in 6 out of those 8 games
