The villain I'm playing (5 seat max PL100) calls almost all raises PF, rarely re-raising, when CO or BTN. He's not a total loose passive kinda guy, as he will raise into pots when first in from CO or BTN, but he likes to see lots of flops. He's 53.3/14.7. He checks a lot of flops and tends to bet the turn on a second check.
Knowing this, I'm looking for a good strategy on how to play him OOP. More specifically when the flop is so-so. For example, hitting middle pair with a OESD (on part to the ignorant end). I don't think I have much fold equity if I bet, and if I do bet and a blank hits the turn, then I've got to fire another barrel, or risk him just betting with anything, which puts me in a tough position.
Should I just check for the free card I'm probably gonna get and hope to improve to a stronger hand, or is the fact that I likely have (the better hand + a decent draw to the best hand + what minor FE I have) make betting the flop a better play?
Fire twice a large percent of times if you do fire. Otherwise give up small pots, and focus on getting the big one.
Leave yourself options instead of just running out of ammo.
Size your barrels and value bets.
Worrly less about potcontrol.
If he float/bets, check rasie bluff the turn occasionally and c/r turn for value a lot of the times.
Such play usually takes you out of your comfort zone. So relax and dont try to force the issue.
So far this has worked against such players for me.
