However, on the flip side, most of the online poker pros I've hung out with irl have been cool guys who were a lot of fun to be around.
Thats because of simetry of personalities and also because of the dynamics. It isnt like psychopaths are people you can detect instantly. (only a certain ort - for example sadistic psychopathical characters). Sidenote: I am not judging someone. Not saying it is good or bad. Most of the time it is good at least for the psychopath itself. Also some psychopaths are found at very high social places and dont harm others. They are doing a good job. Need to be psychpaths. Example: pilots(war), surgeons.
Obv some times this goes wrong because they use their strenght of not feeling stress to harm others. From their perspective they are just doing everything to get what they want. Sure this mindset is pretty common for this board too.
Finally those guys you speak of are mostly the most dangerous. Obv there are dynamics going on. An micro universe with rules etc. Where you build an image and live by it. It isnt to live by the rules when following them gives you more gain not to do so. I wouldnt be suprised to see faults when you have tos how true character. When it is hurting you.
When nobody is watching. When you know a way to cheat others without getting sanctionised by the community. Whome is important to you.
Back to the nice guys you meet from the internet. Those are just the upper class bandits.
Way more dangerous than the average violent guy you meet there. You have almost no chance to get those guys before they hurt you. You also dont know whome of those are actually bad or at least have bad intentions.
On the others hand. If you go to the casino and hear a lot about some of those individuals or see stuff(behaving, shape etc.) where they are telegraphing you how their views and values are you have an open faced game ..
Obv there are some nice guys here and there.

But by his own admission he is a losing player, so he is not exactly in the best position to be evaluating the merits of being a poker pro. And there are plenty of poker pros who live a balanced, healthy lifestyle and have dramatically benefited their lives with their poker career choice.
Those are the cons. I am a longtime winning live player at holdem though.
Poker itself isnt a balanced act therefore there is no balancing. Allthough i understand your point and you are as far right as you can do stuff to balance things out but gambling itself is hurting you. Obv without psychpathic features it will be hard to withstand the emotional stress without getting ****ed.
Know if we got a friendly guy he will become and sekundär psychopath by training psychpathic behavior because he needs it to survive in this environment. Yeah, the swings have no effect to your mood is one of those sangrail.
I just wanted to mention the others site of the medall. Pros and Cons have to be considered. I am sure most of us would have choosed to play a game where you earn money so easy. At least it seems that way.
Biggest problem here is there are allmost no substitude for this. You are pretty much damned. The poker lifestyle is for sure not healthy but yeah you live once.
Other lifes have or can also have negative effects on your lifetime. Most likely.
Some more others less.
Anyways. Good luck.
