Spoiler alert: H&F is going to recommend compound barbell lifts in a program like Starting Strength (there are a few other similar ones). They're intimidating at first if you don't have any experience with barbell lifts, but they're actually very simple programs that are easy to follow. If you don't have access to a barbell and squat rack, there are also similar programs using dumbbells.
Yeah, I've browsed and lurked H&F on occasion. There's probably an argument that this is why I SHOULD do something like SS, but my major problem with squats/deadlifts etc. is I have REALLY weak knees. Even when I do squats with no weights I feel like my knee is going to give out on me.

So your problem is you're really weak, and this prevents you from working to get less weak?? Ok...

Start out light. If you can't squat the bar, you can always try goblet squats (using a dumbbell) or airsquat. Get some videos of you squatting and post them here or the H&F form check thread (troll free zone) to make sure you're doing them right. Work on your mobility so you can squat safely. Gotta start somewhere, and there is nothing better for strengthening the muscles around your knees than squats and deadlifts.

How much money could ytf have made on the <200 by x time wager? I'm thinking lots because when he was ~280 talking sub-200 I was thinking yah ytf no haha.

I find it both highlarious and astonishing that ytf is below me, daryn & yeota.

I believe he could have made enough to pay for his skin reduction surgery - he would have got a lot of action.

My knees are weak not because of lack of muscle, but because of recent ACL/MCL tears that haven't healed properly.

Consult a physician and ask if you are able to do squats without doing further damage to your knees.

I have a friend who tore his acl/mcl and he does squats with light weight.

I have had a knee reconstruction after ACL/MCL ruptures and a meniscectomy. You can find my log in H&F to see what I can do nearly three years out (sadly I didnt log my rehab). If you pm me an email address I can send you a very useful pdf called Bulletproof Knees, which may help you get back to being able to exercise more.

Old guy at work told me the other day, "I've never known anyone who's done what you've done."

And that's when it hit me: the remarkable part of my story isn't that I took the weight off, it's that I ever put it on in the first place! There are plenty of people in this world who could show this kind of work ethic, dedication, discipline, whatever you want to call it--BUT THOSE PEOPLE DON'T LET THEMSELVES GET SUPER-FAT IN THE FIRST PLACE!

I know I said I was going to stop weighing myself every day, but I thought yesterday's 203.6 was a little higher than expected, and I had drank a ton of water the night before as I sat around the house, bored. So after a good workout last night, I got on the scale again today. 201.8.

"Get in the car, kids! We're going to watch the odometer roll over!"

Good job... I've been stuck lately. Need to really buckle down these next two weeks.

6/30 - 262 lbs
7/28 - 244 lbs

Haven't cheated all month but hitting up a Chinese buffet right now. I think I earned it. Then when I get home it's time to prep the meals for the week. Keep it up everyone.

Eat reasonable portions and you can have that everyday, but nice job nevertheless.

Thin people do this, surprisingly.

Hit Vegas for 4 days and had no effective weight gain (.6 over the prior week).

Spoiler:
That's called "doing it wrong"

**** that ****. When I know I'm hitting up a buffet, I start saving up calories three days in advance, then eat like it's my last meal.

I'm thin and I don't do this. If I want to gorge I'll skip a meal earlier in the day and / or lift before hand.

Didn't do too bad at the buffet. Cup of wonton soup, plate of 3 dumplings, little bit of boneless spare ribs and 3 chicken sticks. Another plate of fried rice, lo mein with some general tso's on top. Didn't finish the third plate then had a slice of Texas toast (don't know why they have this there but it was good) and that was it.

Was gonna get Fro Yo after but resisted.

Whipped this up last night to eat throughout the week. Got the recipe on bodybuilding.com BBQ chicken wrapped asparagus over brown rice:

Gonna try it later and get back to you all on how it was.

Offer to a fatty, skinny fatty or someone that just wants to get strong:

I'll be leaving the US soon and am shedding possessions. I have a copy of Starting Strength (2nd ed) that I will send to someone. All you have to do is read it, start it and log it. Once you've graduated to some level of technical proficiency in the lifts (usually 3-6 months), you make the same offer in the forum and send it on. If you get it and find its not for you or you're not doing it, ship it on.

That's a great way to ensure compliance! My biggest fail days are when I do things on the fly and end up eating a bunch of unhealthy crap simply because I've given myself very few options.

Same here. When I don't prep I just go to fast food places and log everything to keep my cals in check.
