Clive Bundy!!

I stood in my apt by myself and cheered him on when they released his cattle.

He stood up to the federal government, didn't compromise, told them what would happen on his terms.

My total respect!! I wish more people would have the spine to stand up for their rights, and not bend over for the man!!

-cheers to you Bundy family!

LOL at Dalai Lama nuthuggers.

Dude could go on stage, lift up his robe and take a big wet dump and his supporters would leave chatting about their great appreciation for the idyllic simplicity of Buddhism and how they now feel so much more enlightened about the world.

Good one. As alobar pointed out many people give far more of their wealth by percentage than Gates. But he is obv a good person on a lot of levels

curing cancer would be beyond amazing. I am watching The West Wing, on season three (2002) they were going to put this quote in the Presidential address: "In ten years there will be a cure for cancer." It sucks the oncologist that stated that was wrong. Someday though.

Thanks to SuperUberBob and one other person for saying Aung San Suu Kyi. I am glad to know of her now.

For those who were skeptical of the Dalai Lama, let me add some more things to hopefully bolster his credentials.

After the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, the Nobel Committee awarded the Dalai Lama the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize. The Dalai Lama was a 2007 recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest civilian award bestowed by American lawmakers.

Buddhism makes the world a better place, that is my opinion. He is the world's most famous Buddhist. His teachings during lectures, from books and in films do a great amount of good. He is a spiritual leader, he helps everyone who listens/understands him. My guess is that people who don't like him on this list have not read one of his books, or seen one of his educational videos. I may, of course, be wrong.

And finally, one of the Dalai Lama's biggest focuses is on other peoples suffering. He has figured out how to make other people's suffering go away. That is his genius. Can you imaging listening to someone for 15 minutes and having your suffering go down even if you are dirt poor and have no belongings in the world? Surely that should count for something.

apologies if you posted a serious response and I didn't quote it here.

The next "teaching" I read/hear from the Dalai Lama that isn't filled with vague, meaningless platitudes will be the first.

I'm interested in some specifics regarding all these people who have been cured from their suffering by listening to him. Maybe I should nominate John Edward, think of all the people who've been helped out by listening to him.

Westerners who love the Dalai Lama do so because he perfectly fits their idea of how an old, Asian spiritual guide should look and talk.

It all seems so ridiculous, I'm pretty sure there is a lot more to this issue than what is being fed to the public via MSM.

As most local Nevada residents may or may not be aware, a gigantic energy company out of china ENN, has earmarked thousands of ancres in Nevada including the Bundy land as desirable for an impending 5.5 billion dollar solar energy plant.

As a side note ENN has already obtained 9000 acres from the State of Nevada for a approx. $4 million, the land was itself valued at closer to $40 million, which was already enough to send local alarm bells off, but when reports surfaced that ENN had brought in Nevada Senetor Harry Reid's own son, Rory Reid for US representation on the massive land deal the shouts of full fledged cronyism became much louder.

The details on Bundy's land as I've read them are that he has grazed animals on Federal Land for 20 years and now the BLM wants the land vacated and all past due grazing fees assessed, this, mind you is the same land that ENN wants for its solar plant, a webpage on the Bureau of Land Managment website was recently taken down where the BLM makes mention of the Bundy Land was to be a target of BLM jurestiction.

In something of a show of force the BLM reportedly used a swat team or paramilitary type outfit to remove the cattle from his land by force, killing and/or injuring several of the animals in the process.

As recently as yesterday the whole area was in a state of martial law due to the protestors and armed militia groups that are in the area, and are standing with Clive Bundy in a show of solidarity.

I just get annoyed by treating this guy as a hero and possibly the greatest person alive when a large part of his popularity rests on being the personification of a cartoonish image of an Asian spiritual guide.

What has he accomplished? Remove the robes, remove the sympathy for Tibet, remove the religious title, and just how prominent would this guys additions to philosophy and understanding of life be considered?
