We all do stupid stuff at least once in our lives and generally we all have to pay to price one way or another....I think her employers were well within their rights to give her the boot.....but that's it.....over.

Move on, nothing to see here.

Not saying it has anything to do with freedom of speech, but could Chik-fil-a legally fire someone for posting a picture mocking a church if they are an atheist? Point being should or can companies legally fire employees for publicly taking a moral or religious stance that is contrary to those in power?

As I'm sitting here I've got the TV on, and CNN just showed the photo, and said that two women lost their jobs over this picture. Said the company fired both the woman in the picture and the woman who took it.

My money is on John Smith...

Last edited by tylertwo; 11-22-2012 at 11:19 AM. Reason: I'd fire her, it's 24/7 caring for disabled adults, she was on the clock...

Pretty much this.

People in Mass. are going mental over this picture (she's from Plymouth). Probably didn't help that her explanation was "me and my friend were just being douchebags, didn't mean any offense". I don't see any other option than firing her, sucks for her that she'll never be able to get a job again when employers Google her, though.

There's some things you just don't **** with. This is one of them.

Go be a ****** and take pics in front of the White House or something.

Glad she's fired and hope she never works again.

I mean, hoping she's destitute for the rest of her life is ridiculously harsh, IMO.

Yes, she demonstrated poor judgement, but having your life ruined over a joke is taking it too extremes.

She hurt this employers so they were justified in firing her, but she doesn't deserve to never work again because of an admittedly in poor taste joke.

Seems a little harsh.

lol.

Meh on the pic. Don't think this deserves firing but a serious reprimand/warning. She was probably a ****ty employee and this was a golden opportunity for them

Private companies can't discriminate in their hiring - thus they couldn't fire all atheists. However, they can still fire you for doing stupid things (such as mocking a church). Thus, the quesiton would be why was he fired - for being an atheist or for a stupid act. You coulnd't just fire someone for expressing their religious belief outside work - but you could say that mocking others is more than just expressing your religious beliefs (i.e. if you fire a Westbourough Baptist they would never be able to win a lawsuit).

If it was an isolated firing, they would probably be fine, but if they had a history of finding reasons to fire lots of atheists, but not so for Christians, they would probably lose the case.

See, the issue that I have is with the fact that she willingly posted it.

It's a completely different issue if it was some pictures someone else posted without her permission, or something never meant for public consumption.

She posted this, understanding the possible fallout, based on my read of the story had an opportunity to take something down that she was aware was upsetting alot of people, but didn't.

Whether you think them being upset is justified or not is irrelevant. The pic was bringing heat before it ever went viral.

That's just incredibly stupid.

People have to learn to show maturity and class on social networking sites. A few weeks ago a state patrol trooper was fired here when pics of his girlfriend hanging out the passenger side window of his patrol car wearing his uniform shirt half zipped and drinking a beer showed up on Facebook.

This wasn't some situation where someone posted a pic of her and some exhaustive search was done to find her identity. She left it on her Facebook.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes IMO.

LOL, as difficult as it is to imagine, there is still a "bit" of maturity to be learned after 30. We all make mistakes, the best that can be hoped for is that she learned her lesson. That's all we can ask of any of us.

It's funny how some of the posters in this thread flip out when someone gets fired or reprimanded for saying or doing something that they consider politically incorrect. But now it's a big deal.

Of course the OP doesn't contain the important details about how she actually did this on a company trip. Of course she is going to be fired.

Oh, so you live in a state where you can't drink as a passenger? lol at that.

Yes, they do. Obviously a hilariously dumb law. I bet the beer had more to do with his firing than anything. I'm sure he just gets suspended or something if he lived in an state that doesn't have open container laws.
