I agree with what you are saying. In my opinion it had a lot to do with USA's economy being so strong during the first world war where basically more than half of europe was buying different goods from the US because of their devastated economical situation.
If you think about it, 1914 was the time were the film camera was growing and improving steadily. So the economic situation of the US + perfect timing = Strong cinema business.

English language - the language of trade and a common second language all over the world.

US is largest English speaking country

US productions use most other English speaking countries. Canada for cost reasons, New Zealand for the views etc.
