You are really, really unlikely to be murdered in the US.

I did see that one proposed solution was to have big blocks of ice in the train carriages

Conversely, you can also frame this as having four times the opportunity to murder someone else. I have friends from Europe that have literally never shot someone in their life, so wild.

Crimes of passion, drug related homicide, and gun-assisted suicide highly inflate U.S. murder statistics. Especially gun related suicides being lumped in with those.

Yeah, tacking suicides on that statistic is crazy.

It's also highly unlikely you've ever seen a gun outside of a gun range or museum if you don't live in the inner cities.

As they say, take away our guns and knife crimes will go up. See London. Apparently London is banning knives now as well, as if the ban on posters featuring beautiful women and fast all of a sudden made everyone pretty and lose weight.

It's a very strange mixed signal you all are dealing with over there. Body shaming = bad; fast food = bad. If you all need reasons why Americans value freedom of speech, this is a fine example.

Seeing as how its been one month since the 4th of July and this thread is really veering in to the political, perhpas its time to shut it down.

Uh no bruv. 1/3 of US households have a gun so it's not highly unlikely at all. But hey, you can blame it all on the "inner cities" (I think we understand your real meaning) if you want.

LOL no, especially if you are talking about rural America. I spent time in Vermont in a small town (pop 300) growing up and every kid I knew was at least passing familiar with long guns.

Ya if you live in the burbs or rural areas tons of people have guns and lots of them. Guns are just normal, if you live in hunting areas guns are as normal as having a tool bench and a ton of tools. Usually the people that have the full on tool bench and a cornucopia of tools have guns. There's a real need for it when you have tons of game animals and very little predators to keep populations down.

Yes, and when most people talk about guns used for murder, they are talking about handguns, not shotguns. While 1/3 of household may have a gun, the number of owners who own handguns (the guns commonly associated with murder) are much lower. Most gun owners are using guns for hunting.

Even with your 1/3 state, you are still looking at 66%, which of course means the majority of homes do not have a gun.

Seems like your fellow countrymen don't agree with you, bruv. Meanwhile I'd expect someone with 22k posts on a gambling site to know that a 1/3 shot is not "highly unlikely", and even that fraction doesn't factor in non-owners who've seen other people's guns.

Most hunters have handguns too, you need it for protection from animals while hunting as well as to put them down if they are still alive after a successful hunt and they aren't killed right away. I don't think I know any hunter that doesn't own a hand gun and if a person owns 1 gun it's usually a hand gun.

Dave, you’re wrong. TONS of average Americans own and carry handguns.

I grew up in suburbs in California and never saw a gun that wasn't on a cop or in a store until I was around 20. Most gun owners don't parade around their guns I suspect

This thread was just supposed to be about things that make America great.

Not the greatest.

If someone wants to make a thread about why America sucks, I have some stuff I could post there.

Beyond those 6 I think cities just run too close together. There are about 10 to 15 cities in the next group that are all real good.

I am not sure how to rank Portland vs Nashville for example or Seattle vs Boston or Vegas vs Miami.
Vegas has the advantage of having anything you could possibly want and that it attracts cooks/chefs from around the world. The downside is that it is hard to decide on which particular Peruvian restaurant to go to once you've decided on Peruvian cuisine. The upside (compared to NY, LA and ChiTown) is that our hole-in-the-wall restaurants aren't more than 30 minutes outside of the tourist areas.

Americans make America great. They're helpful, genuine and don't really care about how others perceive them.

Coincidentally this is why they make arguably the world's most annoying tourists.
