There is very little in my mind that beats a Spaten Optimater or Paulener Oktoberfest, or ever some of the various dunkels.
Dark Doppelbock by Capital Brewery
Instigator Doppelbock by Sly Fox Brewing company
Smuttynose Smuttonator
are a few examples of American dopplebocks that grade out higher on than Spaten Optimator on Beer Advocate
re: Oktoberfest, Brooklyn Oktoberfest is just as good or better as Paulenor imo. I dunno, it's not really an amazing style either way

There are some great american microbrews, but ignoring the big american beers because you like some great american small beers is not a good comparison. In my opinion the average german beer is better than the average american beer exactly because things like Bud Light or MGD drag the curve down so much.
if you're objective is to find out who has better beer on average, then ok. but thats really a silly objective since I never have to buy Bud Light, I can buy something better 100% of the time and just leave Bud Light out of the conversation
I can even walk down the street to my Trader Joe's and buy their privately produced Dunkels, Oktoberfests, Vienna style beers, which are decent beers, for $6.99 for a 6 pack, and these are far from the pinnacle of American brewing but really aren't much worse than the brands you mentioned.
American craft breweries have duplicated or improved all or most of the great European beer styles and some like Dogfish do some really awesome, innovating things
