FYP for you. Man you must be tired to make so many mistakes this morning in such a small post. Are you ok? Can I get something for you?

I was out to dinner with 2 French friends, and I asked them if restaurants in Paris typically included Italian cheese. one girl said "yes, but just to be polite"

anyways Belgian beer > American beer >>>>> German beer

I shall not in any way insult the Belgian beer. I have no argument at all to the amazingness of their beer. They, however, are not part of the topic of this discussion.

German beer is like the definition of overrated. they have some good beers, but they don't come close to meeting the depth and breadth of American beers these days

obv I am not talking about Bud Light, more like the 1,500 microbreweries in the US

The topic isn't the problem, the zero-effort OP is.

Last edited by nath; 08-20-2009 at 10:49 AM. Reason: OK the topic does make the lack of effort in OP that much more glaring

I am affraid that most of you are a bit off about "most hated people in the world".

28 000 person poll accross 27 countries:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/mid...st/6421597.stm

On 27 countries the only two who have rather a negative view of France (more - than +) are USA and Turkey.

You can get details in this document http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/h...erceptions.pdf

We shall have to agree to disagree. There is very little in my mind that beats a Spaten Optimater or Paulener Oktoberfest, or ever some of the various dunkels.

There are some great american microbrews, but ignoring the big american beers because you like some great american small beers is not a good comparison. In my opinion the average german beer is better than the average american beer exactly because things like Bud Light or MGD drag the curve down so much.

"most hated people in the world" doesn't exactly = views of countries' influence imo

Also, is France not in the EU?

Dark Doppelbock by Capital Brewery
Instigator Doppelbock by Sly Fox Brewing company
Smuttynose Smuttonator

are a few examples of American dopplebocks that grade out higher on than Spaten Optimator on Beer Advocate

re: Oktoberfest, Brooklyn Oktoberfest is just as good or better as Paulenor imo. I dunno, it's not really an amazing style either way

if you're objective is to find out who has better beer on average, then ok. but thats really a silly objective since I never have to buy Bud Light, I can buy something better 100% of the time and just leave Bud Light out of the conversation

I can even walk down the street to my Trader Joe's and buy their privately produced Dunkels, Oktoberfests, Vienna style beers, which are decent beers, for $6.99 for a 6 pack, and these are far from the pinnacle of American brewing but really aren't much worse than the brands you mentioned.

American craft breweries have duplicated or improved all or most of the great European beer styles and some like Dogfish do some really awesome, innovating things

Please look at the detail of the poll, I dont see how you could find something more relevant than this study to answer the op original assumption "for me its common knowledge that the french are the most disliked in the world"

Questionnaire used is at page 21 of http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/h...erceptions.pdf

I am affraid that the bbc is not in charge of the poll but rather contracting with specialized company to do so

Might even be an US company working with an US university

I am afraid that you are getting this one wrong too: 87% of french woman do shave their armpit according to Patinel, J. (2006). Norme et contrôle social : le cas de l’épilation féminine.

I am rather interested in discussing figures than debating surrounding questions about myself

I doubt that the relevance of american conducted studies ordered by UK media might be affected by my birth place

NB: obv i am a bad guy

I love the beer ratings argument because I have used it recently against someone else, so I think it's only fair play to take the argument back as valid.

I think our tastes run different. I honestly can't think of a beer I like better than Optimator if I am in the mood for something that dark/heavy.

Oktoberfests I'll concede as a "I grew up in germany and the nostalgia value may clearly affect my ojectivity."

Of the three dunkels you mentioned, I have only tried the intigator, and it was fine. I put it on par with standard german dunkels.

You do understand your argument is equally flawed because your basic argument has boiled to "If I pick the top 1% of beers here and top 1% here, place A has a better top 1% than place B." That is a different argument entirely from "Germany makes great beer."

I am curious tho, to try to baseline your tastes versus mine, what is your opinion on something like Four Peaks Kiltlifter, or Fat Tire, or Brekenridge Winter Ale (Or avalanche if you never caught the winter/x-mas ale season).

ok fair enough

Four Peaks Kiltlifter
have not had

Fat Tire
Fat Tire I like, though I generally prefer something a little meatier. it's a fine beer and I love that they serve it at the MGM poker room for free! it's not something I would typically buy for my apt, but again that's b/c Amber Beer just isn't my favorite style, which I think I'm learning are prolly different than yours

Quote:
Brekenridge Winter Ale
have not had. I think I would like 1 or 2 of them, though if it's like other Xmas style beers it's too spiced for my tastes

my preference runs more towards really hoppy beers, IPA's or Double IPA's, or big Belgian doubles/triple's with huge tastes. tho from time to time I drink everything.

we are currently in a heat wave here in Boston so I've been drinking the lightest, crispest stuff around, Red Oval TJ's brand for $2.99/sixer!!

Kneel,

If you get a chance, try the Kiltlifter. Make sure its Four Peaks. If I recall correctly, 3 different breweries make a beer called that. It's my go to beer in hot weather.

I dislike the germans the most only based on the fact that we had to learn german in school for 3 years and it was boring as hell.

From personal experince I actually dislike the French the most, from the 4 persons ive met.

Let see
Beer vs wine =Beer
Snails Vs bratwurst = bratwurst
Castles Vs a Metal Tower =Castles
Oktoberfest Vs Cheese and Wine Fest =Oktoberfest
Hitler Vs Napoleon -well they were both hateful tyrants so they both sucked ass
Trance vs Gay Ass French house =Trance
Anglos Vs the French inquisition - Anglo's This can be debatable though The french were pretty ruthless at that time.
That's all I can think of right now
