Backing into a parking space means everyone else driving in that row of the lot needs to wait for you. When you back out of a space you wait for everyone to clear. It is obviously better to not inconvenience others. If you are so poor at backing out that you fear crashing into someone, or you just back out without a care for others expecting them to wait for you, go find a spot that's open so that you can drive through to the other side.

Backers piss me off.

This, of course. I figure anyone behind me is going to be stupid and pull up right behind me when I want to back up, or is going to be an ******* and think it would be clever to go nose first into my space before I can back up.

Did you ever wait for someone to do this: back out of space, turn wheels all the way the other way, pull forward a little, turn wheels all the way the other way, back up a little, turn wheels again and drive away forward? Did it piss you off? If not, why not?

Just by thinking about it I have confirmed there are fewer pedestrians and cars hit by those that have backed into spots than nose first. Think of the children. Thanks to this thread I’m backing in as a rule from now on. You can wait for me, Mr.Royal Rush. I’m sure they won’t run out of whatever you are buying at target in the next 25 seconds.

How many times have you had someone start backing up when you are walking behind them or driving behind them and they don’t see you? At least a dozen. How many times have you had someone pull out of a place nose first and they don’t see you? Less than 6.

ETA: you wait for parallel parkers to back in all the time. Settle down.

Saw a backer in a parking lot today. It was angle parking.

ETA: I can't remember the last time I saw parallel parking. Makes it hard to wait for them.

If you live somewhere there is no parallel parking I can forgive. I imagine waiting while people back in tractors and mule teams or whatever they drive in your parts would be more annoying.

I have a company car and we are actually required to back in to parking spots or pull through in spots. Obviously don't do it 100% of the time but the majority of the time it's a million times easier when leaving and less chance of any issue (kids walking/running by, dumb people, speeders in parking lot to hit you, etc)

After a gang of errands yesterday I can give you all the update you have been waiting for!

Turns out backing into parking spaces is like going to bed early, you know it is good for you and you will appreciate the effort in the morning but you have to do the hard work before there is a pay-off so it is easy to say nah.

In short, I will probably NOT be backing in the majority of the time.
