If he/she has to use a key then just put your outgoing mail in your box. When he/she opens it they will see the letter you're sending. Do people not think any more?
Do you think mail carriers check all the envelopes in each box to see if it is outgoing or unretrieved incoming? Also, what if you don't get mail every day?
I supposed you could leave a big post it note asking them to take it but we are starting with a subject that is already pissed about simple procedure to mail a freaking letter the regular way the entire world has done it for generations. Adding steps where things can go awry is not advisable.
ETA:
1.buy bulk forever stamps at the grocery store, post office, Costco, online or the ATM the next time you are there. Place them in a drawer along with the 50 pack of envelopes you order online.
2. Place the next letter you need to send with something you will need once you get to the office, or under your wallet on the seat next to you so you remember to take it out and drop it in a mailbox when you exit your car.
3. Leave a note in the mail box for your mail carrier wishing them a safe day.
