There are so many goddam moving parts to mailing a check:
  1. find a stamp (possibly buy stamps - ugh)
  2. find an envelope
  3. find my checkbook
  4. find the email with her address and her last name (we're real tight)
  5. write out the check and envelope which hurts my hand because it's more than I usually physically write in a week
  6. get the envelope into my car
  7. remember to find a mailbox somewhere and mail the envelope

More times than I can count I've gotten all the way to step 7, only for the envelope to slip behind something in my car and I forget all about it.
Not storing the stamps, envelopes, and checkbook in the sample place seems like a leak.

too lazy to go back and check but i thought he said he was in a condo complex?
pretty sure apartment landlord requirements don't apply to condos where each unit is individually owned.

too lazy to go back and check but I'm pretty sure it applies to any commercial mailbox installation and a condo complex is definitely a commercial mailbox installation.

STD-4C refers to a set of standards and regulations set by the United States Postal Service regarding the specifications of cluster mailbox units used in new construction. All multi unit constructions building plans submitted after October 6, 2006 are required to use STD-4C compliant mailboxes

Does the mail carrier have to open the box with a key to deliver the mail or is there a slot for each box?

If he/she has to use a key then just put your outgoing mail in your box. When he/she opens it they will see the letter you're sending. Do people not think any more?

Do you think mail carriers check all the envelopes in each box to see if it is outgoing or unretrieved incoming? Also, what if you don't get mail every day?

I supposed you could leave a big post it note asking them to take it but we are starting with a subject that is already pissed about simple procedure to mail a freaking letter the regular way the entire world has done it for generations. Adding steps where things can go awry is not advisable.

ETA:
1.buy bulk forever stamps at the grocery store, post office, Costco, online or the ATM the next time you are there. Place them in a drawer along with the 50 pack of envelopes you order online.

2. Place the next letter you need to send with something you will need once you get to the office, or under your wallet on the seat next to you so you remember to take it out and drop it in a mailbox when you exit your car.

3. Leave a note in the mail box for your mail carrier wishing them a safe day.

There's a key for the back that opens up all the boxes at once so the carrier just has to pop the mail in. There's a separate box(es) that small packages can be left, the key is dropped in your box and stays in the lock after you open it. Outgoing mail is yet another larger box - everyone on that bank of boxes can use it.

Next time, you can buy stamps through the mail by check and have them delivered to your mailbox.

85% chance they'll just assume it's mail from the previous day and not look at it.

Also FWIW in my complex they open all the boxes at once with a master key (you can see the keyhole in the pic). So they're looking down from the top at the contents of each mailbox.

FWIW - drove around all day today. Letter is still sitting on the front seat of the car. Hoping for better luck seeing a mailbox and remembering to throw the letter in it tomorrow.

I mean, great for you guys but one of the perks of living in a first world country is that we don't need to use medieval means of communicating with each other.

If anything I wouldn't have expected you guys to have regulated these things but I guess that's a good thing in a way.

I'm intrigued that this situation is the one you chose to post about. From the ordeal you made out of simply writing a checking and getting it in the mail, one would think you'd have a zillion more things that piss you off. Keep them coming. Very entertaining. Can only get better from here.

And who puts an envelope to be mailed on the front seat instead of on the sun visor?

This post reads like medieval communication.

Also, there are buildings called Post Offices. Easy to find. Just google "post offices near me".

Try to remember that it was truly cutting edge to get correspondence and packages delivered to your doorstep when the service began back in 1775. It's still far superior to the system in any other country. There are still plenty of uses where being able to reliably send something 2000 miles across the country for as little as $0.49 is a real perk. As is being able to get basically anything under the sun delivered to your door overnight.

I'm curious what means of communicating you have there that we don't?
