These are the types of things that happen. It starts when you are about 35, and by the time you are 60 you stop trying new stuff (for the most part) because the way it has always worked is good enough for you. Dangnabbit!

One of my 55+ bosses just got a new laptop with docking station. He is now dealing with the switch from windows 7 set on classic mode to windows 10.
he is not amused....he had to ask someone for help with shutting down his computer the first day he got it.

I wouldn't worry about it. Hell is a myth. And Chik-Fil-A is giving up a day's worth of income every week for a silly conviction.

You need to get something that displays the you tube on tv while you drive on a tablet or phone. Navigating on tv sucks, but casting it to a tv is pretty good.

I had my Dad with Win8 on classic mode. I spent weeks getting that laptop setup with super simple shortcuts for everything.

His HD crashed, suspiciously right after he took it to the shop for some other reason. Dude slapped him with Win 10, he's completely lost again, and I can't even help him because I don't have Win 10. FML.

Sounds painful. I like my remote that I can work by feel from a prone position.

when people see the lights like 100 yards from a highway intersection start flashing saying it's turning red soon slow down and stop when they easily could have made it through the intersection

This is a great one.

I love youtube on my smart tv. Watch that more than the cable I pay for. After enough searches the youtube recommendations leave everything I need on the front page.

FYI - most of the time you can hit # to skip through the message.

It's an issue.

I fought using ultrasound to put in Central IV lines for a couple of years. Told myself it was because I'd put in several hundred without, so why bother. Studies showed that you have higher success rate/lower complication rates using it, so I (begrudgingly) started - and of course it's 20x easier and faster.

And, I don't own a smart phone. Probably decreased my chances of dying in a head-on with a semi while I'm watching a video while driving, though....

Just got this today from my dad, god bless him:

Quote:
Here's one you probably can't help me with, but any advice at all would be appreciated. After many years, I decided to try senior on-line dating again, for a month--www.ourtime.com. But a couple of things are giving me fits, and all I get from their so-called "help" dept. are totally irrelevant automated responses.

Opening my "sent" file, I discover that it records me sending "flirt," "favorite" or "like"messages to several women, some repeated three times to the same woman, who's profiles I've either simply visited, but sent no message, or never even visited. In fact, some of them would have had to be so-called "sent" while I was off-line! This is awful, especially as a couple of these women, God bless them, have faces that would stop a clock. More to the point, I don't want any woman to receive false messages of interest and encouragement from me.

Another glitch--I can't delete any messages recorded in my inbox or sent file. When I check even one, then check the "delete checked" box, a check mark appears next to all the messages--but nothing at all is deleted! What a cluster****! I've already managed my account to block all the "flirt" and "favorite" and "like" messages that were flooding my Mozilla e-mail inbox--especially since either they could be from women responding to flirts and favorite and like messages I never even sent; or, they could be as false as the ones my profile keeps sending out, unbeknownst to me. I've also already "unsubscribed" from the automatic renewal after a month. But how do I unsubscribe from being totally misrepresented until then by phony automated interest messages to various women?

Could all this be deliberate on the dating site's part, generating lots of spurious but promising looking "interactions," because otherwise most of us would be getting little or no outreaches, and just sitting back on our haunches, not doing much outreaching ourselves? Whatever the reason, it really sucks. I may have to just delete as much of my entire profile as I can, and take the one-month $30 loss as a sobering learning experience.

Love,

Boogered in Babylon

Sounds like there is a market for a simpler interface site for olds. Surely they can swipe left or right?

My dad refused to get a cell phone. Then refused to get a smart phone. Then refused to get a smart phone without a memory card. Then refused to get one without a removable battery.

Posted this in the wrong thread for extra irony.

My Dad has a pay-by-the-minute cel phone he never turns on. There is no swiping.

Seems like ourtime.com might be a big scam: https://www.consumeraffairs.com/dati...s/ourtime.html

However googling "top dating services for seniors" leads to this: http://www.datingadvice.com/online-d...es-for-over-50 which has Ourtime 4th and is clearly a paid ad. **** the internet man.

I wasn't aware of this practice, but out of curiosity, how much did the billing charge go up for this procedure?

He never takes the battery out, does not have an extra and had replaced every phone without first needing/replacing the battery in its lifespan. You also?

Robert Downey Jr.

Not the troubled, yet brilliant, actor with a tortured soul. Him I liked. But Iron Man Robert Downey popping up everywhere pisses me off.
