I don't trust Dealextreme at all. I'd be careful with anything you buy from them that plugs into your computer.

A slow cooker is pretty useful. Fill it with stuff in the morning, and when you get home from work you have a hot meal. That and a rice cooker and you have hot meat and rice like 20 minutes after you get home.

Does a rice cooker make the rice, like, better? Or is it just a convenience thing?

Rice is so easy to make i dont see what the machine is adding to the situation.

To add some content, burger presses are awesome:

One of the best things about homemade burgers is that they aren't flat little thin patties but instead have some shape and character.

Phill,

Yes, the rice made in a rice cooker is substantially better than minute rice made on the stove. It actually takes longer than minute rice, but it's worth it.

This. I'd rather eat a big fat hand made burger off my ceramic grill than a steak.

You know you can make real rice on the stove right? Do people really eat minute rice?

thin patty burgers are almost impossible to keep medium rare, it's a lot like cooking a <14oz steak, brutal

Surely there's going to be no difference between regular long grain rice cooked on the stove vs a rice cooker?

Part of learning how to cook is using the best tool for the job. It's not a hard concept to grasp.

I use a device to cook rice. Its called a pan of boiling water. Ill try not to over complicate the process for you, but first you boil water in a kettle, then put the water in a pan with rice and put it on a heat source. Strain when cooked and serve.

Now, im as fan of gadgets as the next guy, but if it doesnt taste better ill stick with the old fashioned way.

There is a literal benefit to using a burger press over shaping patties by hand, something not clear with a rice cooker, hence the question.

zero chance your rice is coming out as good using this method versus using a rice cooker, just admit you are wrong

I never made any claim it would taste worse using a rice cooker, i just wondered if it was reinventing the wheel.

Anyway, moving on, i got one of these as a gift a year or so ago:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DOORGANIZE...#ht_1785wt_925

It looks a bit goofy, but it works as intended for dumping pocket contents into and is well made. There is another magnetic version for a fridge too, which i generally think ruins the point that it can go anywhere, but ymmv.
