and Zeno, you can't tell me there aren't great canneries down the coast where you're at. Chuck's in Charleston has been putting out great product for years, and there are several others
There's a few places near me and I'd say ~$15 is about right, but it's a decent amount of food (then again, I can't crush AYCE sushi like everyone else seems to be able to, so maybe not).
I'm kind of interested in getting one, not sure what a good or acceptable price for a poke bowl would be..
This was through DoorDash with a discount and pickup so price skewed six ways from Sunday or whatever your holiest day happens to be, but $15 seems relatively accurate and worth it AF
On left is toro and salmon belly with seared skin. Right is yellowtail with scallions roll, scallop & mayo, mackerel, salmon, yellowtail and tuna. Started with two toro but ate one before the picture.
Anyone know what the yellow thing is? First time I've seen or tried it. The fish was fish (I think mackerel or herring?), but the texture of the yellow part that's attached was a weird spongey/crispy texture, and kind of sweet.
I ALWAYS take those off. I almost ate one last night, then reconsidered and took it off…makes the bite so much worse in my opinion but I love any and all lemon salmon rolls, so light and clean.
EDIT: Sorry, you are correct on the herring. The yellow part is roe.
Yep, that's what it was. Highly recommend not ever ordering it. The texture was extremely off-putting. Almost like a slice of previously frozen apple - specifically, a nasty mealy foamy golden delicious. And it was sweet. Definitely not something I enjoyed.
