ya so my battery is def a lemon. i charged it fully yesterday and 5mins after being taken off the charger at 100% it was down to 54%.

one question i have is is there any problem with overcharging?

i'll often put the phone in airplane mode and put in on the charger when i go to sleep and it will be on the charger for ~12hrs.
does leaving it on the charger so much longer then necessary to get it up to 100% damage the battery?

I put my phone on the charger over night every night. That really should have any effect on the battery. Batteries are a lot smarter now then they were years ago.

so i downloaded better battery stats but i have no idea how to interpret any of the information its giving me.

any help?

Nothing will diagnose the problem better than this:

Your battery is broken. Getting a free replacement from wherever you bought it from is the best move. It sounds like the cells are rapidly degrading.

For the other question it will be fine to leave it in the charger overnight as modern phones are designed to do this with no problem. It just shuts down the charge at 100% and stops drawing power from the charger.

Also worth noting is that Samsung is planning on bringing in wireless charging to the S3 in the future (maybe as soon as Q4 for Xmas) so they full intend to let people put their phone on a charge pad by the bed at night and then grab it in the morning fully juiced up and undamaged.

So unless that specific chip in the phone is damaged the charge routine you have wont be the problem. If the next battery has similar issues then get a replacement S3 from them as you managed to be in that fraction of a percent that has a duff unit.

Fox-Fi works perfectly without rooting.

I have the note and I would say the battery life is pretty bad. Not RBK bad but still bad. Id say I surf quite a bit but that's about it. I had the iphone 4 and as I was sitting in the att store I thought if I could sell it for abiht the same price as the note I would go for it. So I out it in CL and within 30 minutes a guy met me at the att store with cash in hand. One thing I learned that some of you may not know is att will buy your old phone back. I think the give you $125 for an iphone 4.

You should never sell your phone to the store, you could probably get double that on ebay no problem. I always sell my phone on ebay when I go to get a new one.

1) The single most important thing by far is your display. Turn your brightness down. (Make sure you have a widget somewhere easily accessible so that you can turn it back up when it's sunny out and you can barely see the screen.)

2) There's a setting that makes it go dark after a very brief period of inactivity that's helpful.

3) Make sure the display isn't turning on in your pocket. This happens a lot.
I have a Galaxy Nexus and it wasn't making it through the day.

Turned down the brightness and I turned 4G off when I wasn't streaming/downloading. Now gets me through a day fine.

I'd rather have a phone with 1GB storage, no self-facing camera, no Beats audio, etc, etc. and just be able to leave bluetooth/gps/4g on and have it make it through a day no problem (without a brick coming off the back).

Yeah. They put these ridiculously fancy screens and CPUs on these things because they look really nice in the store, and then they have no battery life because it turns out that fancy screens and CPUs drain batteries.

My iPhone contract expires in not too long. As it seems the rest of the field has caught up I'm subscribing to get a feel of what the androids offer.

At the moment the Samsung s3 is the phone most on my radar. Processing power and camera quality are probably the most important features for me. Except of course for functionality as a phone, but I'll take that as a given.

One thing I'm curious about, if I open a PDF file (or anything similar) from a website on an android, can I then save it to the phone's physical memory. Find it really frustrating that I can't on the iPhone.

Also, any major releases slated for the coming months that I should keep an eye out for?

I am due for an upgrade on sprint in two days - anything on the horizon with LTE 4G, multicore processing, but with a sub 4" screen/in a smaller package than the sIII?

I have an iPad for any sort of media consumption - basically only use my phone for GPS, podcasts, and tethering

So the left ear of my headphone jack went out on my s3 (tried multiple pairs of headphones). I'm going to exchange for another device but was wondering to what extent clockwork mod recovery backs up your device. Does it just backup apps or will it back up all of my settings and defaults?

grunching, if I'm looking to spend ~200 on a phone can I get a decent android?
07-31-2012 , 11:40 AM
With a subsidy for signing a 2 year contract, yes. Most phones will be $200 or less. The current cream of the crop, the Samsung Galaxy S3, is $200 for the 16GB version on most carriers. The HTC One X, another very good phone, is currently $99 for a limited time (ATT only).

What are you looking to carry over?

Can I do a full Ti backup and move it to SD card and restore parts of it on new phone?

You might have to root your new phone, but I think that might work.

Got the Galaxy S3 a week ago and love it. Only complaint is the screen is quite dark in sunlight which I suspect they have done to conserve battery life. My friends with iPhone 4s are jealous of the screen size tho and 3 out of 4 will change up to the S3 when their contracts are up unless the new iPhone 5 is significantly bigger. So much better for video, texting, typing etc.

I reckon the S3 is as big a phone as you want to carry. After having this S3 for a week holding a 4s feels like a holding a slippery little paper weight! I'm sure Apple will come up with something good but the new iPhone 5 will have to be awesome to compete with the latest and future Androids.

You should back up your apps through Titanium backup, although they should all be backed up through your google account (but titanium backs up the actual data). Homescress/folder/etc you pretty much just have to rebuild. Anytime you get into system stuff like that trying to back up on one phone then putting it on another completely different phone can cause issues. I usually just take a screen shot of everything that way I know what I had on the home screens and what I had in what folders. Usually only take 20-30 mins to rebuild.

Accounts? Not sure which accounts you are referring to.

pics/movies should all be on your SD card. Although maybe you don't have an SD with the SII. If not, then back up with titanium or better yet you should have them on dropbox or just put them onto your computer. Not very familiar with the Samsung devices but it should be easy enough to plug in and drag and drop.

For wifi/bluetooth I think that you can save those with titanium but I have never tried, someone with more experience doing that might have a better answer. Again, things get tricky when trying to take stuff from the system end of things and move it to a different phone.

Hope that helped some.

Many rumors, apparently vetted by AT&T employees, indicate that this price is not limited time only but permanent as the next model is already on its way.

so does anyone have a Nexus 7? I have a smartphone, desktop, laptop, kindle, etc. I can't possibly imagine a use for one. It's so cheap though, any thoughts?
