-Had a cheap roomate. When it was his turn to buy toilet paper and other items (like pulling teeth to get him to do this) he would by the 3pack cheap ass 1 ply stuff for the 4 bedroom house that always had big parties.

-Same guy would agree to throw down at a hotel room for an out of town trip. Ends up not paying for a room and crashes on friends room next door couch so he didn't have to pay for bed in our room, thus costing everyone else more money.

-Same guy, proposes that we throw $20 down to spice up the fantasy football league. Everyone agrees with his idea. I win league and he still has not paid me.

-Same guy makes about $80k a year in mid twenties.

-Worked on a nice golf course in the cart barn, this lady in her 40s is playing with her friends. Typical milfs, rich, never had to work ever in their life. Well one of the member ladies loses her engagement ring that probably is a good $50k and she just got married within the last 2 years to new husband. She is freaking out, crying and I'm trying to figure out where it could be. I drive to the 18th tee box and search for this ring and find it, takes about 30 minutes. Give it to her. Shes ecstatic and gives me a $2 "finders fee".

my mom was dating a guy, retired, lives in a million+ house and has plenty of spare income. anytime he took her out to dinner he made them order one drink and share it.

i'd call free beer/wine an open bar even though it's not. having some sort of free alcohol is the main issue.

also, first page bothered me, not inviting spouses of the bridal party to the rehearsal dinner is terrible, and if i was a groomsman and my wife wasn't invited to the rehearsal dinner i would absolutely not go. people itt are clueless.

Well, it's better than when I'm out with 4 guys just too have a few beers and they go "Oh look, they have foosball table(thanks pro)" and I end standing alone looking at 4 sweaty guys screaming at eachother for 2 hours before they decide to go home.

People that say this seem to be missing the fact that the groom's sister was paying for the dinner. It's not impossible that she was really broke, wanted to do this thing for her brother, and he knew she didn't have the money, and was trying to help her. It's not necessarily the case, but it's definitely possible.

Giving up on a friend because your wife - the only SO of the bridal party - didn't get invited to the rehearsal dinner is so childish. Who cares if it's rude or wrong to ask that she not go? The guy is still your friend, and ditching him over that is just ridiculous.

That isnt being cheap. That is you being a self entitled dick as you get tipped a reasonable amount for doing your job.

lol, I bet his justification is the 0.1 mpg improvement he gets from not hauling around the weight of a full tank

Like way back in the day when we were doing bicycle tours, and pretty broke too obv, at age 15 - Goin to a restaurant to watch football and my one friend wouldn't order anything at all, not even a water. Waiter says "This is no youth club" and is about to throw us out because of him, so I basically ordered a drink for him. He didn't end up paying it either. WTF

I almost never fill my tank up. I like to pretend it's because I'm shorting the gas market and getting ahead, but really it's just because spending 15 bucks on gas every two weeks (I don't drive that often) seems nicer than spending 30 a month or something. It's not being cheap, it's just being silly.

People complaining about gas in the US in any way feels kind of odd and a bit stingy to me.. when the gas price in Europe currently is at about ~$6.5 per gallon.

Unless finding lost property is part of the job description, I wouldn't consider him a "self entitled dick" for wanting more than two bucks. A REAL "self entitled dick" would have said finders keepers and pawned that ****.

If the ring was worth $50k then she should have given the dude atleast a cnote, or $20 and a bj MINIMUM.

Sure I suppose we have a lot of flight/trains etc but sometimes that just isn't a valid alternative and the comfort of not having to travel publicly on buses (Hi Dids) etc is worth the high cost to a lot of people(including me).

I'd rather get $0 for finding a 50k ring and returning it than get $2.

One time, my friend and I helped these old ladies carry some boxes into a church (we were like 15 at the time) and they tried to give us like $2.50 each for our efforts. It was kind of insulting for whatever reason so we just kinda went "no, no, you don't have to" and biked away.

Went out for a couple of drinks with 2 friends one night (about 10 years ago) and afterwards they wanted to go to a diner. I didn't want to go, and had a slight headache. They easily could have dropped me off back home, I was only a few minutes away but kept insisting I join even though I said I didn't feel good.

I went with them, and the diner had a $4 minimum order charge per person. They each ordered a soda, then one got breakfast and the other a burger. They ordered an appetizer to share with each other, so we made the $4 a person requirement. At the end when the bill came, after sitting there patiently not complaining and not feeling great with my headache, one asked me for my "share", the $4.

I don't consider myself cheap in any way, shape or form and and always pay my fair share, but I thought this was ridiculous. Because I sat there she expected me to pay for the appetizer, really? I didn't even want to go. I also had bought a round at the bar, and neither returned the favor.

This reminded me of the ultimatum game. I'd rather have the $2 than nothing. However, I'd be more insulted by the $2 than nothing, so I see where you are coming from.

Depending on how old you were and how much effort was involved, I don't necessarily think this is too bad. Giving two kids a $5 bill for moving a few boxes that took one trip seems fine. The mere fact that you included this story hints that it didn't go down like this though.

I was just surprised by the person who asked for the money, but I really shouldn't have been I guess. She is always the type, when going out and paying separately to not order expensive stuff. When going out in a group setting where people are going to split it at the end, she goes nuts ordering appetizers, top shelf drinks, the most expensive dinners, etc. Always trying to get a little extra.

It took like 10 minutes of work and basically a negligible amount of effort, so it's not like time value of money was involved or anything (esp. because it was summer and we had tons of free time, etc.). Something about the combination of feeling good about having helped some elderly church-goin' folk carry some boxes and watching them ruffle through their purses pulling out some awkward dollars and coins seemed to denigrate the entire experience. It's possible they were pulling some kind of reverse good-Samaritan 4th level bluff and assumed that we didn't actually want the money and would refuse it but were going to offer it to us so that Jesus would look at them with kinder eyes, but it just kind of felt inappropriate being offered financial reward for helping complete such a simple task, so we politely declined.

If one of the ladies pulled out $500, though, the situation would have really gotten interesting.

My buddy drove us around the same 4 city blocks for almost 2 hours looking for a free parking spot so he would not have to pay $5 for the parking garage. I finally convinced him I would pay the entire parking fee.

No, I wouldn't take it, but I wouldn't be offended by it.

I'd take it if she insisted and it got to the point where I thought she might be upset that I DIDN'T take it.

I would be insulted by the $2 for the engagement ring though, more so than no offer. I guess my most preferred outcome in that scenario would be for her to offer a decent reward so I could reject it and feel good about myself.

hijack - my college roommate had a game similar to this in his philosophy class. Each student was given an index card and told to write A or B on it. If they both wrote A, they would both get an F. If they both wrote B, they would both get a B. If one wrote A and one wrote B, the A would get an A and the B would get an F.

This counted as an exam grade. Anticlimactically everyone wrote B and the story sucks, but it just make me think of that

Man, how hilarious would it have been if some guy that was going to fail anyway wrote "A" just for the hell of it?

I know a guy who is pretty broke. every time we're at the casino.. He always asks someone for an extra cigarette. about 10 times a day.. every time we're together at the casino.

this tilts the **** out of me because we would be rolling together.. and every time he would ask.. i get embarrassed and try to walk away cuz he does it sooo much. no shame in his game

then one day he wins $4000 in a free roll. finally buys his own pack of cigs... and he still asks to bum a cig even when his new pack is just about full!!! every time I berate him about this.. but he is a pig (zodiac) so he just keeps on doing this

and you know what tilts me even more.. he is always hacking and complaining about his lungs etc. I tell him is because not only does he smoke cigs.. hes smoking several different brands a day which is prolly worse than sticking with one brand.

3rd entry about the same person coming soon!!!
