I used to think the purpose of Goodwill was to provide cheap clothes for low income people but then learned it is actually that they use the money from selling the clothes to help, so feel free to Goodwill shop to your heart's content.

It's actually both - inexpensive clothes and raise money.

It is also worth noting that the charity shops often get way more donations than they can sell, so anything they can sell is great.

You should see how much some of the Goodwill executives make. I definitely give to Goodwill but it seems like they should be lining their pockets less and donating more.

Charity professionals should make less than market value? Of course they already do, but you would have them make even less? How much should someone running a billion dollar organization be paid?

Lol billion dollar businesses, I’m talking about the local guys not the overall ceo.

They made 4 million in profit in Omaha which I’m not sure is based on how much revenue and only 600k actually was used to help folks. There are a number of these stories out there about goodwill.

Pay their low end employees less than minimum wage and pay his kids over 100k. Sounds like sound businsss practices.

Don't want to seem stingy to his kids.

a ceo plus 8 executives making 1.8M combined is not the type of scandal I was anticipating. although that could be equivalent to 10M in a real city

That article was written by someone that thinks charity staff should be all volunteers, or perhaps maybe pay for the privilege of working there.

Used to sneak beer into Fenway years ago. Tucked a couple in the socks and a couple under the armpits. They never checked.

But we were poor college students then.

I actually used that excuse at MSG last summer. I had a plastic flask filled with whiskey stuffed down the front of my shorts, but I forgot to take off my belt going through the metal detectors.

Guy asked me to lift up my shirt, saw the flask, and asked me to take it out. I asked him if he was really gonna make me take out my colostomy bag on front of everyone. He let me walk right in with a pint of whiskey.

I've also dug a hole under a fence on day 1 of a fest and passed a a case of beer+ underneath each of the next 2 days.

More brazenly I've also had a buddy toss a backpack full of goodies over a fence in between security check points, then just got lost in the crowd while they were looking for me.

Worst thing that can happen in is they take your ****. Security doesn't care enough to kick you out unless you cause some kind of real problem.

Stick it to the man!

Raze,

A friend of mine buries multiple bottles of liquor and mixers at Golden gate park in advance of Outside Lands music festival.

Also LOL at "you're a fish to pay $10 for a beer when all you need to do is come out and dig a trench under a fence, and hide out and pass beer under the fence."

Some people's time simply has no value.

Stingy makes sense at least for most people.

Sneaking beers into a stadium and then blowing 10k/m on luxury hotel rooms isn’t even consistent.

Another common irrational frugality I’ve seen is people who drive 10 mins out of there way to gas stations to save $5 (or less) on a tank.
