I thought 20% was fairly standard, but all I ever hear from waiters is complaints about how little people tip and how they get 10-15% all the time so maybe I should bring my tipping more in line with the masses. Anyone have thoughts on this? Tip less if you are a good customer or if your server does their job, but only at the minimal level required?
Do what you want. It all averages out if you have a competent server. It really depends where the location is though. I assume you live in a state where they actually pay minimum wage plus tip.
If this was in a state where its all based on tip and no wage if tips cover that wage, keep on tipping high, they def need it.
I worked as a server for 5 years. I am not picky at all and usually just do the basic. Order food, receive food, eat than leave. I tip the standard. I wish I could tip less because its so damn easy but there is an expectation that society has set for eating out. If I don't like it I shouldn't eat out.
Do what you want just dont go below the standard unless you had sub par service.
