Kind of different from the other stuff posted ITT, but a lot by pink Floyd believe it or not. Two that spring to mind are Time and Wish You Were Here. Pretty much any of their three great albums (Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall) played straight through will do it at some point, and that's the only way to listen to pink Floyd

Last week I listened to Wiener Blut after smoking a bit of weed and fought back tears around the 1:15 mark randomly thinking of the first weeks of interaction I had with my dog when she was a puppy.

Just posting the link makes me tear up... Perhaps only parents will get it.
Wait, your best friend or your son died? Just wanted to know whether to cry or jump off the building.

I have a hard time singing the last verse of Traveling Soldier without tearing, but hearing it is fine.

The River by Garth Brooks always gets me. We had an assembly in school and a classmate with cancer sang it, brought the house down, and then later passed away.

Some Mother's Son - The Kinks

It's a song about dead soldiers, with really sad imagery.

Quote:
Two soldiers fighting in a trench
One soldier glances up to see the sun
And dreams of games he played when he was young
And then his friend calls out his name
It stops his dream and as he turns his head
A second later he is dead

Some mother's son lies in a field
Back home they put his picture in a frame
But all dead soldiers look the same
While all the parents stand and wait
To meet their children coming home from school
Some mother's son is lying dead

Highway 20 Ride by Zac Brown Band
Quote:
I ride east every other Friday
But if I had it my way
My day would not be wasted on this drive
And I want so bad to hold you
Son there's things I haven't told you
Your mom and me couldn't get along

So I drive
And I think about my life
And wonder why, That I slowly die inside
Everytime I turn that truck around, right at the Georgia line
And I count the days and the miles back home to you
On that Highway 20 ride

A day might come you'll realize
That if you see through my eyes
There was no other way to work it out
And a part of you might hate me
But son please don't mistake me
For a man that didn't care at all

And I drive
And I think about my life
And wonder why, That I slowly die inside
Everytime I turn that truck around, right at the Georgia line
And I count the days and the miles back home to you
On that Highway 20 ride

So when you drive
And the years go flying by
I hope you smile
If I ever cross your mind
It was a pleasure of my life
And I cherished every time
And my whole world
It begins and ends with you
On that Highway 20 ride

You Were Always On my Mind....Willie Nelson

Every lyric pretty much sums up what a sh*thead I was lately to my (now ex) GF.

GF of 3+ years...lived together....moved out/left Sunday June 6th

She was ALWAYS all I wanted...My actions didn't exactly tell that story though. I didn't cheat but wasn't giving her the kind of love she deserved....even though she's all I wanted and needed.

100% my fault she's gone and as punishment I've forced myself to listen to this once a day.

John Rzeznik of the GooGoo Dolls and Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit play Wish You Were Here - 9/11 tribute

Then there's Neil Young covering Lennon's Imagine at the 9/11 tribute ... watch that one and consider the context

I'm not a fan, just knew of the song and wanted to tell the guy who brought up Floyd. I listen to plenty of cheese of a different flavor, tho.

Barber's Adagio for Strings from the 2001 Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. I remember accidentally flicking the live coverage on and this captured all of the sadness and feeling of 9/11 with a profundity I've seldom seen in words.

Aces: It was my best friend who died of stomach cancer. He was 42.

My son and his daughter are fine and are friends.

Sorry for the convoluted verbiage.

I'd never seen that before. When the clip opened to a fat dude playing a ukulele I just assumed it was a joke. Glad I listened. Blew me away.

man, i really don't like much country outside of a few really old artists i heard as a kid. but being a dog lover, i had to listen to that Feed Jake link, and wow, it hit me. also loved that IZ over the rainbow.

here's a few songs that come to mind for me.

Billy Joel - Travelin' Prayer

Bobbie Gentry - Ode to Billie Joe

Stevie Wonder - As

Stevie Wonder - Another
Star

Isaac Hayes - Walk on By

and for everyone with the "i have testicles/am a real man/etc so I don't cry" - either you're 16 and haven't really experienced enough beauty and/or sadness yet, you're older than that and are emotionally stunted, or, more likely, you're being a top notch internet tough guy. Good job.
