i remember around 2002 getting scammed on ebay when someone used a stolen cc to buy a ps1 (or maybe ps2?) off me on ebay. they also lived in nyc. i went to the cops and they were basically like lol scam gtfo you clown.

i closed the bank account that was tied to paypal and they were never able to take the money back. of course this is before you needed a ss number to have a paypal acct.

I know you already said this, but how can anyone in 2016 accept anything other than cash for a Craigslist transaction?

Obviously the correct play would have been to take a money order or cashier's check whether it was for the exact amount or not, and if the check was for more just give him back the difference in cash.

I know it was dumb but he seemed like a decent dude he lives right around the corner had already bought something from me without incident and I was under the impression that with square cash it was impossible to reverse.

I mean what recourse does a store have if I go in and pay for something with my debit card then go home and dispute the charges?

there must be some consequences to deter ppl from doing this all the time right?

Step 1) Try to get money back through square or bank

if that doesn't work go to

Step 2) Notify police. I think you've got a better shot than most situations since you have the guy's address. Plus, if he's a regular scammer he could have warrants out for his arrest, in which case you'd really be screwing him. Definitely worth a shot. But

if that doesn't work go to

Step 3) Post all his info on craigslist and other internet sites making sure to stress that he's a scammer.

if that doesn't work go to

Step 4) Break into his house and leave a tomato on his pillow.

Pretty stupid of this guy to **** with you when he knows you have his info.

Contact police, sue in small claims, and make a website with his information and what happened. Admo, a poster here, has experience with the third thing.

Take video of the individual in possession of the items you're selling him next time. Make him aware that the transaction is being recorded. Obv wouldn't be necessary for a cash transaction.
Similar to how its a good idea to record the opening of big ticket items that have been delivered to your house in case of damage.

I think OP lives in a major city? I would be quite surprised if they did anything.

Also have them show their ID and long form birth certificate.

When opening a large ticket item have the delivery guy on camera so he can confirm the package was just delivered and not tampered with.

rbk,

He lives very close to you? Go over there and get the money he owes you, plus $500 extra for the insult and inconvenience. He is trying to make you his bitch. Show him how bad a mistake he made.

WTF it's chump change. File a claim with Square I suppose, but why bother with the police or any of that other bull****.

Just be smarter next time.

When someone owes money and isn't paying and you know where they live, its not hard to find some people that will help persuade them into doing whats right. If you can hire them for less than what youd recover, its obviously +EV. Something to think about RBK.

you think it's better to file a claim with square or just my bank?
I'm doing both but was just curious which ppl think would be more effective.

and el diablo,

ya I mean why do I even own a gun if I'm not gonna use it in situations like this?

RBK's been rear ended by an obvioualy drunk driver and didn't call the police. He isnt calling the cops over a few hundred $.

RBK doesnt care about the safety/life of others, he isnt gonna risk calling the police with this guy knowing where he lives and put himself in danger.

How much did the headphones and watch originally cost you?
What is the fair market value of the items you sold?

My guess is that it was such a good deal for you.... That you assumed the risk. I'd even venture a guess thst you defrauded the guy and are looking for sympathy because you have a history of looking for sympathy when in the wrong, even if you dont outright admit it
