its ******ed but the concept is to protect themselves as buyers. A big portion of everything sold on CL is likely stolen

Yeah but would a bill of sale on scrap paper make any difference if somehow the cops did get involved?

yeah, I think if im selling fake or stolen merchandise, a BOS is going to be pretty worthless as well

A friend bought a stolen iphone off CL. Cops came knocking at his door a few weeks later. He was pretty easily able to explain what happened, they took the phone though iirc.

Like a year later he was subpoenaed (wow that's a horrible word to spell) in a trial against this guy who'd been running an iphone theft ring and got his money refunded eventually.

Moral of the story: don't buy **** off CL.

They traced the sale to the seller's craigslist account, they had been building a case against him already and my friend was unfortunate enough to be the last guy in the line.

I am one of those lowballers. I have been trying to buy a mountain bike off of CR for two weeks. Every one that looks decent, I automatically take 20% off, or more.

I have made 10 offers and have not received one response yet.

Possibly if he intended to add some zeroes to the end of $20 and claim them as an expense for his small business or something.

I usually accept low ball offers just to get rid of the stuff I have laying around unless its some kind of valuable item that goes for over 500 bux.

Whipping up a little bill of sale seems like no big deal imo. Kinda strange I guess for so little $$ but whatever. Anyway, I've bought 5 cars/trucks off of CL at this point and every one has been a good experience.

I've bought and sold a lot of Craigslist. It's generally works out fine but one time I was moving out of an apartment and had some furniture listed. A guy emailed me, offering to buy a few items (like $200 worth) using forever stamps. Yep, dude wanted to pay me in postage.

the guy is probably worried that it doesn't work so he wants to be able to get his money back and/or threaten you with small claims court or some bull ****.

I sold a 65 inch tv, helped load it into the guy's car which it barely fit into, and I almost forgot to take the money. He said "Oh yeah.. Here you go" but he never asked for a receipt.

That's pretty wild. Like books of stamps?? Only place you really hear of that being a standard form of currency is prison lol.
