Get off of OP's case for turning into the right lane rather than the left. It's 5:15a, which I take to mean there was very little if any traffic, and it's a very very minor mistake. Yes, it increases the chance of hitting a car who is randomly driving with his lights out, but that really is a de minimis risk.

I once got pulled over (on the way home from a poker game, no less) for driving in the right lane while passing a police car parked by the right side of the road. I was driving under the speed limit, was entirely aware the police car was there, and was stone sober. Turns out that Minnesota had passed a statute on this point a couple of weeks before in order to try to lower the number of police cars that get hit by passing cars; the rule now is that if it's a two-lane road, you must move over to the left lane to drive by a police car on the right side of the road.

He did not give me a ticket; in fact, he was a pretty nice guy.

You got lucky. In Arizona, you most likely would have went to jail for driving on a suspended license. Which, if that is something you are planning on doing, you should make damn sure you follow all the rules.

While technically, not pulling into that first lane is a violation, that cop had a stick up his ass for pulling you over for that but seemingly cool for cutting you slack on the suspended license.

If by seemingly cool you mean giving me the ticket for it with the standard penalty attached, yeah he was the tits.

Not that I'm any expert driver, but don't all those yellow lines and stripes in your drawing mean that you aren't supposed to drive there?

Those are there to keep people from driving parallel with the road over those lines, yes. I don't know the law on crossing them perpendicularly when pulling out of a residence or business that doesn't have a "no left turn" sign (which may not be enforceable and may be there just as a "please don't do this" thing).

Surely you are not upset about the suspended license ticket? You have no reason to complain about that one. You were driving on a suspended license. If you had updated your address which you are required to do, none of this would have happened.

Small town cop pulled me over for driving 31 in a 30. Let me off with a warning.

I was pulled over for going over a single yellow line on a country road.

Thing was that the road was covered in snow and it was impossible to see any line on the road.

Just cops being bored and power tripping.

Got pulled over by an officer who made me get out of my car and searched me (no reason given) and then when I asked him why I was pulled over he said it was because I had a light out above my license plate - I thought he meant a brake light, but when I looked at it, it was one of two tiny little bulbs above the plate to illuminate it. Turns out its not even a law to have those either.

Pricks.

There's been at least some litigation over the issue. I believe that a California Public Records request was denied and the denial was recently affirmed on appeal. I haven't run down and read the opinion though.

I wouldn't really want that kind of request to be granted -- it could easily have the effect of putting the underlying data in the public domain, which would be even worse than just California having it.

grunching.

every morning on my way to work i make a left turn from a stoplight onto a 2-lane road where i need to immediately get into the right lane. i always do it correctly turning left to left then signaling and getting over into the right lane. ofc there is always some douchebag who was behind me at the light and turned directly into the right lane and is now speeding up and making it difficult for me to get over into the lane because hes where he shouldnt be.

now i wont go as far as to say i hate people like you op. but it does annoy me that so many people just dont seem to know a lot of basic driving rules. or dont care.

I would challenge the ticket if your license is suspended cause you didn't get some mail. They should be sending this type of letter 50 times if it is gonna result in your license being suspended.

Also, what is your race?

I got pulled over after leaving the local American Legion at closing time. Of course the officer was looking for drunk drivers bec, hey, what would you be doing leaving an Am Legion at closing time? So he told me that I'd not completely stopped at a stop sign which was bs, asked if I'd been drinking bec he smelled alcohol (I don't drink bec of medications I take), I said no and he then points to my 84 y.o. mother and asks 'what about her?' I really, really, really, wanted to say that she was smashed out of her skull and I was the designated driver but then my sense kicked in.:roll eyes:

Didn't get any ticket for the stop sign lie but the officer was noticeably disappointed.

No license plate holder here so this one is good:

I got pulled over for the exact same thing in Albany, OR. I passed a parked police car and another one shot out of nowhere and pulled me over in a hurry. I was stone sober too, but it was obvious he was almost hoping I'd be drunk. He literally stuck his head inside the window of my car and starting sniffing for booze. He was disappointed and let me go with a stern warning and I had to stifle a chuckle about how dumb the whole situation was.

I've been pulled over for this more times than I can count.

I'm curious why you let them search you. Did they have probable cause? Did they search you or your vehicle? Either way, without probable cause and you not consenting to a search, this was definitely not within their rights.

Grunching but the dumbest part of the story is the fact that OP did something he knew was illegal right in front of the police and then is bitching about getting pulled over.

Not sure about anyone else but when I'm breaking the law I take the time to look around and make sure the police aren't around.

Yeah, but we living in the "its not my fault" generation.

We don't like it,and alot of times, its not right, but if you want the best chance of staying free and alive, don't piss off a cop.

This.

All in all, it wasn't a terrible outcome for OP. No large sums of money were confiscated, and he wasn't shot and killed.

The last 3 posts are pure AIDS. No one thinks about pissing off a cop when they drift into the far lane making a left turn. I didn't even know that was illegal. It's obviously a ticket trap.

Cities shouldn't be funding their operations preying on unsuspecting drivers for doing something 99% of drivers could do right in front of a cop anywhere in the country w/o even raising an eyebrow.

Lol @ letting a cop search you due to a light bulb being out.

Lol at telling a cop he can't search you if he really wants to. Good luck with that.

Yeah cops can do some weird **** when they are fired up. I've had them pull guns on me when I did nothing wrong and they just mistook me for someone else. And police brutality is an actual thing. God forbid you are a minority.
