So for the month of December until now, I had a bit of a beard thing goin' on on my face. It was fun while it lasted but I had to shave it all off. I forgot how much I hate shaving though. It's irritating and my cheek areas get sort of red and crap and it's annoying. It'll make my skin feel uneven and when I'm done, it's all dried out. I've used different exfoliating creams, shaving creams, and after shaves to varying success. I actually like the shaving gel I have now which is either an Aveeno or Nuetrogena one depending on what I feel like getting. Both make the process easier than some Walgreens cream.
But I'm looking for advice on the other two, or three if we include a moisturizer if that's necessary. Whenever I get after shave, I always remember Patrick Bateman saying to not get stuff with alcohol since it'll dry out the skin and make your face 'age' or whatever. The latter doesn't really matter to me, but I don't want my skin to be dried out and have light flakes in addition to the light redness

. I also don't want it to feel all tight. What should I get? Is there actual credence to that whole spiel in the movie? Since it's aftershave and I rarely shave right before work or school, I don't mind if it's a bit oily or whatever.
If a moisturizer is necessary in this day and age of post-metrosexuality, what should I be getting? This is something that I obv wouldn't want to be oily at all. Also, I live in FL and when I've used stuff in the past and it has some SPF stuff in it, it can be weird since when I'm out in the sun a lot, it'll create some awkward face coloration. It's nothing really noticeable, but wevz, if there's anything that isn't a sunblock also, that'd be cool!
And for an exfoliator, I'd been using one (I forget what it was since I'm still visiting family) with some regularity and had no problem with it until recently (2, maybe 3 months ago) when my skin has been getting dry. To be fair, I got a different type from the same brand since they didn't have the one I usually use. Immediately, I didn't react well to it and went to a different store to get my normal one but it hasn't been the same. That's been upsetting but I don't know if it's because my face decided to reject this stuff or because the weather and humidity outside has been changing with the seasons.
So I come to you all for help. What do you use and what are your recommendations for face care? I appreciate any help!
CLIFFS:
I need a moisturizer, after shave, and exfoliator. Patrick Bateman says alcohol based products are bad. I prefer something not very oily, especially in moisturizer for the face. I don't know if dry and red skin on my face is due to the weather or because of crappy product, but I'm willing to try other stuff.
