- As of 2000, an American Pit Bull Terrier was the most popular dog in America but was not responsible for the most human attacks
- Even the CDC supports the position that irresponsible owners, not breed, are the chief cause of dog bites. They have done studies that indicate that the most "dangerous breed" of dog changes with popularity and reputation.
- It is reported on temperament tests conducted by the American Temperament Test Society that Pit Bulls had a passing rate of 82% or better -- compared to only 77% of the general dog population.
These temperament tests consist of putting a dog through a series of unexpected situations, some involving strangers.
The only issue I've had with my pit bull is with other dogs. It's no secret that pit bulls have been bred historically to hunt and take down larger dogs/animals. However if you have any idea whatsoever on how to raise/discipline a dog, a neutered pit at the dog park should be no problem. My dog goes to a crowded leash-free dog park 2x a week and hasn't had one significant issue in 2 years.
Also, golden retrievers can be deadly!
