Buried Knife Found at O.J.'s Estate

Quote:
The story is incredible. We're told a construction worker found the knife years ago -- we have heard several different stories, ranging from "several years ago" to 1998, when the house was demolished.

Our law enforcement sources say the construction worker took the knife to the street, where he saw an LAPD cop. He told the officer where he found the knife and the cop took it.

Turns out the cop -- who worked in the traffic division -- was off duty at the time, working security for a movie shoot at a house across the street on Rockingham. Our sources say the officer took the knife home and kept it ... kept it for years.

In late January of this year, after the cop retired from the LAPD, he contacted a friend who worked in LAPD's Robbery Homicide Division (RHD). The cop told the friend about the knife and said he was getting it framed to put on his wall. He wanted his friend to get the DR (Departmental Record) number for the Nicole Brown Simpson/Ronald Goldman murder case, which he planned on engraving in the frame.

We're told the friend was indignant, and told his superiors. The brass was outraged and demanded that the retired cop turn the knife over, which he did.

Left handed Taylor 616e 2014 in brand new condition. I've been trying to figure out the differences between the 2014 and current model, and all I've turned up is the torrified top ans something about bracing which I don't really understand.

Wondering if I should pull the trigger here if i could get it for around $1400. I can't seem to find a retail price for it...guitar center, sweetwater etc. have it listed no longer available.
MSRP was $3,798

Typical it would sell at Guitar Center, etc for $1000 less so it was probably about $2700 new.

Torrefaction is just a wood aging and strengthening process. Bracing? Not sure without details.

It's a Taylor though so you won't be disappointed regardless. Do you need a higher end guitar like this though? Really depends on you but the price it right as long as there isn't some gotcha on it.

No, I don't need it. I don't perform anywhere outside of my own house, but I do love guitars and it seemed like a hell of a deal. It's obviously harder to find nice lefties generally. If I buy it, i'll probably sell a couple of others to offset, including a Taylor 114ce that would kind of be redundant.

This lady claims to have bought this guitar brand new back in November as a gift for a relative who ended up passing away. She had it listed at 2200$ at one point and she rejected my offer of $1500 with no counter. She now has it listed at $1800, so I figure I can probably wait it out for a good price. If someone else snags it, no biggie.

Can you please cite your source? This is very depressing.

What's appropriate attire for a "celebration of life" being held Sunday afternoon at someone's house? This is six weeks after the death and burial; it is NOT a funeral.

Life is best celebrated in your birthday suit

Work clothes and a 12 pack of your favorite beer.

God damn it. I know you're joking, but I hadn't thought about bringing a bottle of wine or something. I really have no idea if this will be more like a serious memorial or more like a party.

A celebration is a party.

Ugly Christmas sweater imo.

tyler - I don't really believe you but since you admitting you were teasing RDH I'll give you a pass this time. Yes, I'm familiar with CDS/CDOs.

Min - you have two options. Option #1 is to contact the organizer and ask them directly. Option #2 is to ask yourself what the deceased would say if you asked them what they would want you to wear. I'm voting for Option #2 as it has a stronger likelihood of wacky hijinks ensuing. Proper dress code depends on what the event will be like, which is going to be strongly correlated with the organizers' relationship to the deceased. If parents of a dead child are throwing it, that's going to be much different than a frat throwing it for one of their brothers. Th best solution is to just contact the least emotionally involved organizer and ask your questions directly.

chop, I'll have you know that I can be every bit as truthful as tbab could ever be!

Min, I would most definitely rock a flowered Hawaiian shirt, but I would probably wear that to a funeral also, WE.
03-05-2016 , 01:45 PM
I agree that contacting the organizer is the best option. Failing that, go with what you think the deceased would have liked.

For my friend's celebration of life, her husband requested we get a little dressy (she liked dressing up), try to wear some purple (her favorite color), and possibly wear something hand knit, especially if she made it for you (she was an avid knitter).

It was really nice. And my condolences.

Celebration of life is actually a thing??
03-05-2016 , 02:42 PM
Yes. I'd say it's less formal than a funeral. More of a cathartic get together to share stories and memories.
03-05-2016 , 03:07 PM
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'm not going to know anyone at the event except the decedent's brother. He was old, the hosts are not relatives, the house is in a very expensive neighborhood, and the invtiitation was very proper, so I'm concerned that it's liklely to be a bunch of rich, old, conservative people who would frown on a hawaiian shirt, even though my friend would have loved it. I think I'll play it safe and go with a dark suit, white shirt, and flowery tie.
03-05-2016 , 06:37 PM
dvz, don't you think wearing purple on your name is a "little" over the top?
03-05-2016 , 07:14 PM
I just watched this fascinating documentary on what has to be one of the more interesting uses of "I was just joking" on the internet. Morally complex and difficult...

Never fired anything larger than a .177 air rifle, went to a sporting clays facility today and fired 50 shots with a 20-guage over/under. Pretty fun. Herp derp second amendent

Any celebration of life should rightfully include firearms.

I had lunch at The French Laundry today. It was pretty good.

Should have been better than that.
